Hello to all of you!

My name is chris and new as a registered member. I am 35 and from Graz, Austria.

4 years ago I bought a 1972 combat. A dream come true! Before I had a BSA Rocket Goldstar Replica....also a wonderful bike!
But with the Commando I can go for short trips around my hometown and also long distance trips without headache.
I use my Commando daily for any purpose.
2, 3 years ago I found this forum and I read almost daily in this fine forum.

Many thanks to Jerry and all of you for the interesting articles, discussions, hints and keeping Commandos on the streets!

Here are some infos about my bike for those of you who are interested….

Last year I did a total strip [no cosmetics on barrel and head….still looking shabby…I was that curious to hear and feel the rebuild engine – no time for paintjobs!]
…changed crankcase…a modified 1971 crankcase [someone welted my old case to death!] with original breather on the driveside and a new homemade breather on the timingside [like the 850 breather] …check valves on both breathers [do you know the cv from a series 7 BMW car?.
Fits in line, is black and looks like a tiny petrol filter. Perfect!]
..41mm inlet valves…titantium collars…tri-rate springs…optimized inlet ports….2s cam…10,5:1 pistons....of course new bearings and so on …
gearbox breather…beltdrive and a double sided gearbox adjuster…isolastic mk3 conversion…racing headsteady…anti drain valve…Boyer powerbox…Pazon smartfire ignition ….homemade minimal wiring [all cable run in frame – a winter`s job in my kitchen!]…Grimeca front calliper with floating disc, 13mm brembo mastercylinder and braided steel hose….modified Norman Hyde rearsets…oilfilter conversion…Tomasseli adjustable Gold Commander clip ons…..Dunstall megaphones….shortened frame [under seat]

I am looking forward to add my 2 cents to the forum and of course keep on reading your stories and discussions!

have a nice day and keep on riding!

here are some pix of my bike...

Chris,

Since you stated you've been lurking here for two to three years, it's about time for you to contribute. Anyone who builds a bike as fine as the one you have damn sure has a lot to contribute.

+1 from me. Think I'll start over on mine...

only kidding.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I guess that if you like cafe racer style then that bike might have some appeal. I think it is ashame to loose the original gorgeous Norton style. Iam sorry, but I think the bike is ugly, particularly with those high exhaust pipes.

I have come to appreciate execution over style. If it's a coherent expression of a theme and done well, I love it. If it's a lowrider or a 'to a gnat's butt Vincent', I love to see them. This bike has IT. What I'd really like is to HEAR it! And ride it!!.

I think the high pipes look great. Everyone and their dog (myself included) is using pea shooters. The seat looks a bit strange to me but either way it's a super cool bike and I bet it's nice and loud. The neighbours must love you.

Cool bike for sure.

If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all.

It is shocking to me that someone on this friendly and civil Norton forum would call someone else's bike "ugly".

Personally, I think it is kick ass street fighter beautiful.

I'm sure we all have different tastes otherwise everybody would be fighting over the same woman. Personally I enjoy seeing a different interpretation of a Commando.
Usually you don't get a lot of slamming on a forum like this because most folks are adults who respect others differences.

Very nicely executed. The seat and tank are tight. Do you burn your thigh with those pipes where they are?? Welcome to the forum. You probably have some tales to tell regarding your build not to mention the Norton experience you gained. Brovo!

You'd hate the other forums I'm on like the Jockey Journal. Any bike posted is a target for the nay sayers as well as for praise. I swear some newbies over there shed some cyber tears when they first join. It's like a hazing of sorts.

Once you post a pic of your bike on a forum such as this you have to accept comments whether good or bad.

Aw come on fellas, all those positive comments are "a gee up" and surely you're "pulling Chris's leg". Who is going to come clean first? If I wanted a cafe racer I would build a triton, not ruin a Commando. If I wanted an ugly Commando I would get a highrider.
Hey Chris, how many times have you burnt your leg on those high pipes or got tangled up in the poorly routed cables?

Haven't really mastered the art of constructive criticism yet, eh? How about suggesting better routing than the smart ass remark?
