*Edit: The latest 06.3988 lockrings available from AN and elsewhere have grown another couple of wide fins.
Are these nuts chrome plated brass? It doesn't specify.

ZFD:
"Current Andover Norton nuts are bronze, then chromed, part#06-3988, but you can also have the unchromed bronze ones (cheaper) under 06-3988/1. They were chromed steel originally, which is not as good expansionwise,..."

Anyone care to estimate a ball park £££ figure for sorting this?

Exhaust Rose Nut Question

It doesn't just end with the exhaust thread repair because unless done in situ and I don't know if anywhere does that ?
It's knowing how to remove the head
How to replace the head
And how to not strip the studs from the head
Read all you can before attempting it
Cheers

Thank you.

£375. Gulp!

I might have another idea.

Yeah. I'm really losing heart at the moment (as well as money).

Don't be disheartened
These things happen , somebody has lashed it up to sell it
You need to get rid of those exhaust locking rings
They stop the nut from falling off but they don't keep the nut tight
The vibration of the system chatters the thread away

There are alternatives to the sleeved inserts. Recent thread depicts an owner using a bolt between the lock nut fins, then the head fins, held with washer and nut. Not a concourse bike, but a highly effective solution that cost nearly nothing.

There are ways that do no damage so you can carry on riding for the summer and repair in winter
I held mine on my 850 with springs for a year or so when it was my sole form of transport

This is how my pipes are held on
I have used this type of fixing for over 30 years
It's not pretty but neither am I
Cost was zero ,it pulls up on the outer cylinder head bolt and the inner stud
No extra holes drilled or any alterations to the head

And here's the earlier version I used for many years that'll soon be going back on when I change back to separate downpipes

Yes, shop around. What's the LH thread like?
It doesn't 'look' too bad. There was RTV in there too, but there's more thread there for sure.

Not a great pic I'm afraid..

Also, worth mentioning, there wasn't a pipe retaining collet fitted in the r/h side, there was in the the left.
