Engine troubles

Update…..
Reviving an old thread for follow up. I have the engine back together. This was after the rocker spindle bolt broke. I’m still not sure why the bolt broke. Upon refitting everything, the following parts were used. Thiel updated material rocker shaft bushings and spindles. Dave C modified the rockers and bushings to allow more oil flow through rocker arms. And to make sure the spindle shaft and bushing clearances are correct. There has been some discussion ( Jim Bushman) on the tight clearances on the factory spindles and bushings.
Upgraded stronger rocker block bolts, and rocker shaft bolts. ***Just a heads up, if you have to remove these items, there are 4 different bolt sizes between the spindle bolts and rocker arms. The shop manual does show the differences in the illustration and part descriptions but not in the assembly notes***.
The only weird thing that was found(along with a broken bolt) was 2 bolts that hold the rocker tower block down, (rocker arms are attached to these removable blocks), has slightly peened over threads. When replacing these bolts with the updated, stronger bolts, the threads were slightly damaged upon removal. So some light thread refurb was required. Again different size bolts in each hole.
I havent taken the bike for a ride yet but it seems to be running well. No abnormal noises or issues.
So fingered crossed that the broken bolt was a rare event.
