have there ben any reports of catastrophic failures of the stock 40 year old glass tanks due to ethonol?

I wouldn't say catastrophic, but reports of junk in the carbs, engine, bubbling of the paint, etc. Someone even said the F/G tanks are just not safe, and are not DOT approved any more, because they can break apart in an accident and then you know what happens. I'm not sure a cheap metal tank wouldn't rupture too with the right crash.

Riding a M/C is hazardous to your health. But then so is eating broccoli.

That one actually looks OK, but I wonder when ZFD is going to 'do the decent thing' and get some made to spec?

We have ordered the tooling, and will hopefully have original-shape Roadster tanks Made in England next year. A costly exercise, but our costly and frustrating experiences  with the Indian child labour ones motivated us!

Don't blame me for the quality, after all it was taken with an Ipad. I guess it doesn't have close up?

Good deal! I can speak personally from experience of recently paying more for an English made steel tank (not Norton) than taking a chance on an Indian-Pakistani version. Seems like the English made one was about 100 pounds more, but it was worth it. Looks and fits very nice. The company that made it was also making some ornate breast plates or something like that for some group of British Royal Guards. Didn't get the whole story, but just hearing that made it sound like someone with quality I could trust!

Check this guy out on FB. He started making AL IS tanks, cap and taps included, $550 plus shipping. The tank he made looks awesome.

What would a roadster length IS tank be like? I have been thinking about it for a while. I would be able to gain some range and retain my Corbin seat.

What is the length difference?

Sorry for the Quality...damn energy efficient bulbs in the garage...iPhone camera too. I'll re-take in the daylight.
