gas tank vendor/producer

Whew! Good to hear it. AFAIK, the first batch of good EMGO tanks became available late 2018 and the second batch early 2022. I don't know when the current batch came available since I had some in stock and wasn't looking.

A "Wassell producs" tank would likely not be EMGO. Wassell is clear when it's EMGO and they do sell EMGO tanks today. I get all my non-crossover exhaust pipes and Peahooters from them and they are clearly labeled EMGO and are of high quality.
The first tank would have definitely have been from the 2018 batch.

Are all the Wassell tanks EMGO?

Dave
The only Roadster tanks they sell today are EMGO. I seriously doubt that has always been true. What I do know is based on discussions with those involved:
1) No one was able to make a big enough purchase to get a batch from EMGO by themselves.
2) Wassell and a US trade-only seller went together to buy the 2018 batch.
3) The 2018 batch was the first batch.
4) The first five I bought were from the 2018 batch.
5) The 2018 batch sold out quickly and then there were none for quite a while.
6) None of the 15 I've bought have had the problems you described.
7) 100% of the 15 I've bought have had the gas cap mount problem I described.

So, with the problems you had and if you didn't have the gas cap problem, I suspect that you got old stock before the current EMGO tanks or EMGO did sell them in smaller batches prior to 2018 but quit until they found enough volume.

Common problem. Look at Hastins rings. You can still find them in some sizes, but they have not been made for a long time.

Thanks for the info, the first tank I had didn’t get touched so I have no idea about the fuel cap issue on that one, the second tank did not have any problems with the fuel cap or the fuel tap mounts.
