Hi.
Well, it´s alive. It started 2nd kick. It´s always exciting when starting a bike after a rebuilt, but this time more then ever. I didn´t expect it to start already on the second kick, it has always bin a bit difficult to start with the SU carb. Anyway, it started and ran great, sounded even better. But died after 2 min. turned out to be the battery. It´s probably dead. Put the charger on ang got it running Again, just to get it up to temperatur. It was so great to have it running, that I deciced to celebrate with a BBQ, and a couple of friends came along.
I´ll retorque the engine tomorrow and see if there´s power on the battery.
Here´s how it look.

Those really interested in degreeing a cam for performance edge will tend to run the engine too fast/hard for the vernier adjuster locker pin to stay in place so can well back out till sound of valves bashing pistons a few turns before silence. Could use venier for easier experimenting then weld it up or configure plain sprocket & cogs to set cam where ya like it. When my Peel got stuck throttle after 7000 miles I found the pin was very loose and staring to stand proud of its holes so will be rid of it after some experiments.

Sorry I missed this discussion about verniers on cams.

DONT DO IT!

I used them for racing and based on my experince I would not use them for a permanant solution. You can use them for experimenting on the dyno but once you have decided your best cam timing set it using the sprocket remeshing solution. You can move in 5 degree steps so the worse you can be is 2.5 degree early or late to your perfect setting by remeshing. I have a collection of about 5 camshaft sprockets which have slightly different setting which is another way of doing it if you can find a wrecker with a box of spares.

No vernier pin will last in my experience. I have tried two differnt verniers and the only thing that might work is a home made one with a say 1/4 roller as a pin.

The tell tale sign of trouble is turning thae engine over by hand and hearing a click click sound coming from the front of the timing chest.

i'll dial in Peel with current veriner sprocket but then follow aceotel's advice to key slot a couple extra in regular sprocket to leave cam near optimal.
