While I follow or adhere to no Political party , the young guy leading our country “Canada” now ,while making a few mis-steps along the way , he has exhibited very good leadership skills during this particular crisis , I feel much more at ease knowing he and his team are running things right now , compared to our last Prime Minister , he is a breath of fresh air , I actually believe what young Mr. Trudeau has to say , he also even allows unvetted questions from the press ....

With it in mind that making comparisons to leadship performance in USA is setting a very low bar these days, I do agree our Mr. Trudeau is doing an admirable job. His now daily briefings, lasting little more than 15min a pop, are on target, concise, informative and useful. His continually evolving policies and actions are also addressing the very real financial situations across many different income levels. He also seems to know when not to engage in verbal combat with reporters and not be baited into making inflammatory remarks that would only serve a short term "sugar high" for the masses while kicking up more problems (like the recent 3M mask export shut out from the USA).
 
Well its our Easter long weekend, 4 days and no one is allowed to travel, no camping, no boating or jet skies, the State boarders are all closed no one coming in or out, our beachers are closed, all must stay home, big fines if you are out without a good excuse, but so many getting caught trying to sneek away with their camping trailer or caravans and being told to go back home and a fine given.
Here in Aus we have a lot of grey nomads who have sold their homes to travel in their well equipped vans and they have been forced to stay foot in one place only, we are becoming a police state run by the GOVT, but its what we got to do to win this crisis.
Good news last night here in Aus they may have found a vaccine that will protect everyone from this virus and is now in the testing stage.

Yes, he did defer to the scientists at FDA and CDC and they failed him and the country.

I wasn’t referring to the link. I asked you a direct question.

Were there mistakes made before Trump? Certainly. Trump is not making things better. In fact, the country is circling the drain right now and he says he’s not responsible and the states should fend for themselves. Of course, he’ll soon deny he said that, if he hasn’t already done so.

Until there is a vaccine for CORONAVIRUS there has to be testing for everyone in the country. And those found to be infected have to be isolated from those not infected. Anything less will only prolong the misery of this disease.
 
I don’t understand how testing can help that much with containment AFTER the virus has become established.

As I understand it, results take 2 days or so to be returned. So, if they come back negative, all you know is that you did not have the virus 2 days ago! You may have it now though.

Even if it comes back positive, the advice here in the U.K. at least is to self isolate, and seeing as we’re all locked down anyway, that will make very little real difference to anyone’s activities.

Here in the U.K. people are only admitted to hospital with ‘serious symptoms’ and that is irrelevant of any test result.

So, in practical terms, I do not see how testing helps much in the current situation.

I do however believe it helps in the future when it comes to trying to analyse and understand how the virus spread and developed.

Every medical professional worth their salt have all said, “testing, testing, testing”.

I suppose it depends on whether or not a key worker will be taken off the active list for upto 14 days because a household member is displaying what might be covid symptoms.
 
Layman's question.... If (as many seem to) you reckon you had it early and got over it without medical help, what would testing show? Many seem to claim to be in that place, but what if it was just a bad case of flu and not Covid-19 related at all? Must give them a mis-guided sense of security, perhaps.
But BIG bottom line (and I'm not inviting political side swipes)… Why am I asking these questions on a motorcycle forum?

Yes, agreed, testing key workers to stop them spreading, if infected, would indeed be a good idea. But, they’d have to be tested every day.

The test to confirm if someone has had it already (rather than has it now) is a different one. If this proves that the person can no longer catch or carry it, then this would be a very valuable test.

By knowing who's infected and who isn't, treatment and mitigation is much easier. We're being reactive rather than proactive like South Korea was, vis-a-vis testing. Many who have it have no symptoms early on and could be unknowingly spreading it. Most decent folks would take steps if they knew they were infected.

But like I said Danno, you get tested and all you know when the results come is that you didn’t have it 2 days ago.

You cudda caught it on the way home from being tested, or today, or tomorrow, etc.

This virus moves so fast. By the time you’ve tested enough people to get a view of a state / country, the whole scenario will have changed...
