If I live and prosper long enough I must try a 315' Norton twin to really drive the potato potatoing crowd bonkers. Peel will have foot forward pegs too.

Guys i just got these crankshaft for my project it listed as commando 750 850 crankshaft.. but can anyone confirm which MK is these MK2 MK3?
all the bolts are 5/16" bolts. and are they 89mm stroke too... i hope i'm not interupting the fun here..

when my project finish i hope it can be a good one to post it in here too

Ugh some things are best left covered up but good comparison of before and after views Martin. Btw if you've a spare that's fits a Combat I'm in the market for two cheeks to put past Peel's engine back together to see if just a fluke on its surprising power band. It would be the core of a righteous chopper of course.

I'm planning on using it for 90 degree offset project.. and 74' future project..
do you have any idea about this cranks stroke and which mk are they

The cranks would have to be before MK3-850 because they have 5/16 bolts. With that style of bearings they would probably be 72 or 73 model year. Jim

but they have the same 89mm stroke like the other early norton right?

Hobot, anymore pictures on Sir Ed cranks??

Glad you asked Martin as Doug McQure came back with this crank teaser.

"Yeah,,, they always want peektures,, Ill get you some, Eddys got a
new billet crank being made, the old one is amazing but the feared
weak link is the cast iron bits, so Eddy decided to play it safe and
go 100% billet," Doug.

I'd say they're not 850 cranks, as they would have a couple of circular spot-faces cast on the side of the cheeks adjacent to the big-end journals.

It's also noteworthy that the drive side bearing is a good-old-fashioned ball-race, so not a late 750 either.

Billet Crankshaft Sir Eddy was working up when he died Sunday Oct. 28, 2012.

Interesting that Kawasaki went to a full rolling element crank in their W1 [BSA Golden Flash clone] to replace the notorious plain bush timing side main - but is it overkill?
The roller crank Kawasaki & Suzuki big 4s do seem reasonably robust in high out-put drag racing applications.

Any Yamaha XS/TX 650 owners - what is the [rolling element bearing] crank reliability factor in your [360` twin] experience?

Note: thermal shock into liquid nitrogen is a no no discovered long ago, so current process is 1' F per min change by vapor state N2. After the chill parts heated to 350' F slowly then slowed cooled. Not much different program for steel to Al or nylons. Never cryo temper assembled parts, especially if dissimilar metals involved. Peels CHO head had the steel valve seats squeezed right out, ugh.

-315' F is a bit of a power helper too

As a excess 650 produces around 50 - 55 crankshaft H.P. , and a tooned Norton 750 maybe 74 the relavance is remote .
Particularly considering reliability wasnt a key feature vof the XS flat trackers .

The dimensional accuracy for the correct interfearnce fits for a all roller ( ball race ) crank assembly isnt easilly obtainable, at a sane cost .
Not only that but the two bearing crank isnt going to help in that respect either, regarding moments and levers . The life expectancy at the
limit is going to be limited . And the results spectacular when something comes loose .

He used this XS 650 on Short Track, Half-Mile and Mile events, claiming two wins and a further six podiums on it.

nasty little yamaha tooning .

Roberts made a name for himself that year by battling the dominant Harley-Davidson factory dirt track team aboard an underpowered Yamaha XS 650 motorcycle, making up for his lack of horsepower with sheer determination.[

Will have to find someone to blame here , as we're being irritateing . And perhaps slightly of topic . Nevertheless the historical ramifications are significant . :?
