Carbon Wheels on ABS Norton 961

So maybe just try to swap the wheels between the two will tell us everything? If the regular none ABS will fit the ABS bike so there is no problem what so ever correct?
Its the ABS timing disc that's the issue I think ? Can that be made to fit the CF BST wheel with timing disc to a ABS bike ? So can a BST CF wheel be fitted to an ABS bike with the ABS timing disc ?

Bit outside of the box, but could the ABS be removed from the Mk2, if that is the impediment to fitting carbon wheels. It’s seems simplistic, but I’d rather a none ABS bike with carbon wheels than an ABS bike without them - the carbon wheels really do make a huge difference. I recognise that there may be other technical/legal/value implications - just a thought bubble.

The legal issues in the event of an accident would likely be quite severe, inc nullified insurance, etc

Probably the same if one of the BST wheels failed for any reason. BST would have no liability as they are saying they were not approved for fitment to the ABS equipped bikes.

Probably the case in some countries, I doubt it’d be the case here in U.K. unless there was evidence that the ABS, or the modifications to make them fit, had caused the failure, I doubt there’d be any comeback.

Disconnecting ABS is different because it’s a legal requirement to have it fitted and working.

I'd need permission from the owners first...and its when I've got time. I've got another 3 bikes being delivered this week, along with a full diary to May.....so you'd need to be patient on this.
Of course Stu, when ever you have time for it... And thank you!

You are a mechanic and that is your work and you should not check things for us for free when you put time for it, I offered you payment many times before and you ignored. I will feel much more comfortable to send you payment for your one hour time or so. It is only legit and fair that you will be paid for your time.
Please send me your PayPal address and I will send you 100 pounds for your time and service.
Everyone here will agree that if you waste time as a mechanic you need to get paid for it. Your time cost you money and I want to pay for it. I never liked free dinners!!! And this really bothers me.
With all the respect as always.

No, its fine....no payment required, cheers anyhow. Its still something I can add to what I know, which is beneficial to me and I want to see the 961's survive....which is also beneficial to me. I do technical advice for the Norton Owners Club members, which is a voluntary position....but have gained a couple of customers through that as well....which is more than payment enough.

BST just emailed me and asked for the ABS measurements/wheels/brakes/discs spec drawings. Anyone can provide these now?

From BST: "as we do not have the measurements or details of the fitment therefore we have no drawings for this wheel at all."

I received a file from BST now. They said that as they do not have any drawings of the Norton ABS wheels fitments they can not help and that we will need to check it by ourselves.

Very disappointing to hear this from them.

It may have been something as simple as the homologation costs with Continental, to sign off both the spoked wheels and the carbon wheels.
Could be Stu, I was told by Skinner that was the reason only a dual seat option was made, a single seat variant would have needed a lot of extra costly homologation work.

Eddie, do you have more ABS drawings or drawings of the wheels fitting like BST provided?

If I will provide it to BST then they will tell us where the issue is.

And naturally, all companies will cover their arse if unsure, by simply saying it won't work and can't be done. No point risking their neck if something goes wrong, when there is zero gain for them.

Sorry I don’t understand any of this, Sometimes UK English is like Japanese for me.

So what is this means?
He means that it is quite possible that there is zero technical difference between ABS and none ABS wheels and that the only ‘issue’ was possibly that the factory did not homologate (ie authorise or certify) use of the carbon wheels due to cost.

No, I have absolutely nothing like that.

I didn’t intend to come across as some kind of industry insider, when I said I spoke to Skinner it was on the stand at the NEC motorcycle show !!

I wish that this is really the case but we have two people that said they tried and it doesn’t fit.
We have Vernon240 friend that tried and this also from FB screenshot attached.

This Norton with Carbon wheels use 6 bolts front and 4 bolts back just like the ABS model, so I really don’t get what is going on…
