Seems everywhere I ride these days a lot love filming their rides and sharing it on Youtube, I am old school and been riding for 50+ years now with mates I grew up with or on my own or with the wife when I let her, I enjoy my riding time but the need to film everywhere I ride is just not me as seems all my mates are the same, too me its just another distraction when out riding, setting up cameras and watching if everything is working, no I rather just enjoy my riding time.
I know a lot like to watch others riding on their travels on Utube and all, but to me as there are so many out there and after a very short time I get bored with watching them, I know Swooshdave does some great filming work on here with the Mighty garage and his rides, but to be honest I can't get into them myself, just riding around normal obeying the road rules and doing the right thing, and seems every BMW rider here in Aus has a camera mounted on their helmet, body or bike, except for a few of my riding mates.
Then there are the over rated Dragons Tail clips, here where I ride we have a lot more dangerous but great roads up in the ranges and are a bit more challenging with steep drop off and all, we also get our idiots who should never ride on these roads or the ones who think our twisty roads are their personal race circuit's, no wonder the police are cracking down on some of our close and best roads to ride on.
But one Utuber I love watching and that's Domie racer, I think he is German and he rides his Domie very hard, sounds great and he always sticking it into it, no boring riding with him, ride a bit like me when I am on my hot Commando/Featherbed, but I don't need to put up my riding style and some of the illegal things I get away with on Utube, no thanks I just enjoy riding and I picture everything I do in my head.
Then you get the so called professional/media/test riders who give their take on bikes they been given and some of the BS comments they make while filming themselves or the bike they are testing and being one sided on their take of the bikes they been given.
Don't get me wrong, everyone has their take on this, this is just my opinion and observation when out for a days ride and what people put on Utube, I just enjoy my riding time without having to film it and rewatch it when I get home.
I might have put this thread in the wrong section but am sure Les will move it if I did.

I sometimes record my rides, have a GoPro that attaches to my helmet. It's doesn't take much to set up and turn it on, and it doesn't distract me (although I can see how it can). The reason I do it is that at 69 yrs old I know I'm getting close to the day when I can't ride anymore. Next 10 yrs or maybe next week, who really knows, and I'm hoping these recordings will, at some level, allow me to relive experience I get from riding. I post them on YouTube since it's free and allows me to view it from anywhere including my TV late at night when I'm sipping a whiskey. People comment on my videos but the ones that I appreciate the most are those that allow them to relive the experiences they had while on a bike just like the one I'm riding. On this forum, we are fortunate to ride classic bikes, however we're the exception. Of the guys who ever rode a motorcycle, very few still ride, and within that group, a very small number have bikes like they had when they were young, let alone in a condition to ride. Nothing can ever be the same as actually riding, who knows, I may never look at my videos when I'm older, or I might regret not doing more. Cheers!
