Came across this recently and was wondering if asking price of $3500 CAD is way out of line?

Claims to be non-matching numbers, frame good/freshly painted. Engine "a combat" but bike titled as 850. Two gearboxs (unstated condition). MK2 carbs. Stainless rims. Looks like high pipes. Dunstall finned covers. Vernier iso's. DT Headsteady. Steel tank original paint stated to be good.

Cannot see any electrics/lights/silencers/left side cover (right looks primered only)/second mudguard/mirrors/switch gear.
A quick tally on most of those missing bits looks like at least another $2k needed before any professional machine work or paint work.

With the way prices are going these days then that would be a good price, looks like everything is there and more, but here in Aussie land prices have gone crazy, but people still want to give you nothing, when selling my perfect 2013 Triumph Thruxton some of the offers was just plain stupid and they wonder why you let them know with FU fool.
If I had the money I would jump at it.

Hard to say. I just spent a grand on new tires and some electrics . Do you want a Combat motor with earlier drum brakes ? It's a mix-up of parts for sure. 5-6 K. Cdn. more to make it the way you want it to ride. Actually , I'm into $28,000 myself and still going thanks to this forum , all good, great ride in Nov. this aft. 16 C. You are in Van. and I'm Torontonian. Out there next late summer to fish.

I use 60 percent of $US5945 shown for poor condition at Hagerty. That comes close to $US3500. That said personally I would never buy such a mismatched machine. The drum front does not go with either an 850 or a combat 750. Very likely a collection of several years. If you want a complete Commando…walk away from this one and keep looking.

Bits and pieces add up real quick at $3 a bolt ! Don't see any gages? Looks like $2000 - 2500 to me. IMHO

Might be all miss match parts but if you wanted to replace the parts with the right parts all the parts there are worth money and if you sold everything in parts I am sure you be way ahead in what you paid for the whole lot as what I see there is money to be made whether building a mis match bike or in the parts alone, but of course prices are different in my part of the world and CAD$$$ is around the same as our AUS$$$, I would still buy it if I had the chance even if I didn't put it back together as I say there is money to be made whichever way you go.

Definitely close scrutiny required. Exactly what is missing. Are cases or head cracked. A lot that needs confirming. I'd risk $1500 on pics alone but would prefer less.
My 2 cents.
ps Looming recession & rising age of those wanting such bikes makes flipping it a year or 2 from now that much riskier.

Money aside....that looks like a ton of work, but if you have a garage and tools etc>>>>>>

Located Guelph ONT. Was thinking might be a good project for my Dad and I to do together. He is in Ottawa and i'll be there over Xmas.

Guelph is 2 hrs. west of Toronto. If the 401 Hwy. is not jammed up with trucks and cages. I'm from Ottawa and have owned 3 Snorters purchased in Ottawa. My current MK 111 is from Ottawa.
How long do you think this offer will be alive without a decision before your X-mas flight ?

If I were in the market for a new vintage ride, I would insist on a case that was "all there".
As mean gene says, costs add up at $3,00 a bolt. (I have paid $8,00 for one bolt)
IMO, it would be better to pick a machine that has been left out in the weather for 30 years, but is all there.

Good luck what ever you decide.

Slick

That's a tough one to call. If that photo shows all the parts, then there is quite a few things missing. Looks like there is an extra gearbox, at least parts of one. It will always be a mongrel, although it wouldn't bother me, some folks won't touch it. I'd keep looking, or offer less is this one floats your boat. You will spend a lot of $.

When dealing with something like this, the best way to put a price on it is what you can sell the used parts for. Discounted because you don't know the quality of the items; selling a bunch of parts is a PITA; and you will have to deal with a bunch of cheap ass tire kicking hoarders. :)
Which would make this pile of parts worth about $2000 to $2500 max.
Assuming this is what you wanted to work with.

Ya I think I'll let this one pass. Would be big money pit and long project done over multiple cross country trips.

I will post the AD link in the "Things Found on Ebay" forum if anyone here wants to follow up.
