Hi Zach, welcome. Help us help you.. describe the "fiddling" you did to the Amals in detail please....

Is your tank absolutely clean with fresh gas?? Maybe the pilot jets are clogged.. That would account for the no start...

It is a 69, just wondering about the fuel tank. Is it glass or steel? Have you done a good clean out of the tank?
Pulled the petcocks to check for debris around the screens?
Pulled the bowel plugs to drain any water and shoot some carb cleaner up the main jets with the throttle wide
open to clear any water?
Checked the timing, we know you have spark.

If you check everything slowly and carefully you can be pretty sure what isnt wrong, narrowing down to what
may be wrong.

It is a glass tank that i have coated with caswell sealer. and i have fuel filters on, i got it ti run yesterday after i cleaned the pilot circuit. would start up great got my color tune out and got the mixture set right. and got it synced pretty close. i got up this morning to mess with it it would start first kick run for about 5 sec then shut off, then kick and kick and kick and get the same result, which to me could be a lean mixture? or air leak.

What happens if it starts and you bring the idle right up immediately to 3k or so and keep it there. This will remove some of the low speed idle
circuit issues. Ive had this happen many times in the past.
This season Ive not run any ethanol fuel in my bikes and Ive had no problems since. Not the whole story but I suspect doesnt hurt.

i always run non ethanol fuel in my bikes. i got it running one off the plug wires came off the coil. got it fired up mixture is right on playing with the idle and its like the primary side carb is controlling the idle for both cylinders i backed the shift side all the way out and no effect what so ever. and the revs are hanging sometimes. i thought it was a lean condition backed the mixture screws in a little just to see and no change. throttle feels ok its a new cable its been on there and worked for 300 miles since the rebuild.

No response on the idle screw means that the passages are plugged or that you could have a air leak.

Be careful using a tiny probe to clean the idle jet under the adjusting screw. It is easy to deform.

You can use the throttle to pick up the slides and drop them to hear them click as the bottom out.
The clicks should come exactly together but they usually are a very tiny bit off due to cables etc.
I say tiny bit mind.

Air leak on the carb that won't adjust? i think i picked up trash from the tank when it ran low

cleaned the carbs again now it is much better now I'm gonna put my manometer on and she what she does. thanks for the help i will keep you updated.
