I talked to a guy who does Cerakote on bike parts : it is a very thin ceramic coating. Two versions, for higher temps. and standard. One needs heat cycling to cure properly. He showed carb. bodies for instance, so can now be colour co-ordinated if that is your thing! He said it is chemically inert, so gas/petrol-proof. Other examples were car cylinder heads and fork yokes/ triple trees and calipers and exhausts. Blasting is the only way to remove it.

I looked at the website for Australia.
It is not clear (to me at least) if this is something I can apply myself or have to go to a specialist/licensed service.
Do you know jan? (@jan nelder )

I applied it myself. (These expansion chambers) Great stuff. Air dry variant.
Absolutely impervious to burned on chain lube, coolant, oil & gas.

Has anyone tried a ceramic coating on their exhaust headers? Jet-Hot has a coating that is “chrome like” looks interesting. Satin black also available.

Done it DIY in the past. Only done black. Good stuff.

Did you also use a black muffler? I would like to use my original balanced pipes and was thinking either satin black or chrome like, with maybe some short megaphones, or ? Just want something different. Megaphones were popular when I started riding in the 60s and I always liked the look and sound. Also like to be able to adjust the sound.

I used it on all black pipes and silencers, and also black pipes with chrome silencers. Personally I think all or nothing is best, ie all black or all chrome.

The chrome effect stuff I’ve seen looks more like alloy that chrome, wouldn’t be my choice personally.

Yeah, I’m probably going to end up with a new set of chrome pipes, just looking at the alternatives. Wife doesn’t like black and I know the chrome like would fade like they did on my car’s Doug’s headers.

Which brand did you use Nigel?
No idea.

I used to buy it from a company called Camcoat in the U.K. for exhausts. Not even sure they still sell it. It wasn’t aerosol, it was stuff you mixed, applied with spray gun, and had to heat to cure. But when applied and cured properly, it was a very good and durable finish.

I also used to have them do engine parts professionally, but went off that idea when I had it flake off etc

I don’t think she will like the megaphones either!

Jaydee's question was "what is the application process?", not how much it costs.
I can't find that info on the website you directed us to.

I was told they clean the inside, remove the chrome, and then coat the inside and outside. I asked about the welds on my balanced pipes and was told there would be no effect on the welds. Salesperson stated that their product helps to evenly disperse the temperature through out the pipe.
