Norton 961 Alternate parts list.

Why not get an aluminum tank?
It is a nightmare to clean.
I'm looking for a more modern look, I love the Titanium color tank on the Domi now! But I also want another one in hot Red and another one in the crazy beautiful Triumph Aegean Blue.

And its a Parts post so better we dont enoyed anyone...

Folks,

As the future of parts for our bikes is uncertain I'm collating a list of alternate parts for 961's. This is purely a list, so please don't start commenting, comparing one against the other or generally derailing (as has been know to happen on the odd occasion here) I've already mentioned this to Jerry and if we can keep it in a common format he will see about putting together a sticky list. So here is what I've got together so far. Feel free to add, but please just the description, manufacturer and their part number plus any helpful notes as you see below. Alternatively just P.M. me and I will add to the list. (It will probably be neater that way actually)

Is it possible to put the short slip ons(not with the de-cut)instead of the standard long torpedoes slip ons without map it?
Will the bike act normally or errors will occurs and it is not recommended?

I hate the long ones so much!

I strongly disagree with everyone saying the aluminum tanks are hard to clean or maintain. I have both the polished and brushed and they are very easy to keep looking perfect. Far more durable than painted tanks, no fuel issues of the plastics and ethanol also.

You say the "standard long ones", are they the OEM silencers?
If you're going from the OEM silencers to the Shorty free flowing silencers, you will certainly have an issue without a remap.
Way back in 2013 I switched to free flowing silencers from Matt Capri, and had surging issues from 3500 to 4500 RPM.
Nothing serious, but I was worried about possible detention issues.
Remap fixed the problem.

Yes they are the OEM long slip ons that I have on the catalysts pipes.
I also have the OEM de-cat and the OEM short slip ons.
I cant install the de-cat because we dont have the cable, so I just wanted to replace the long ones with the short ones BUT I dont think that even this is possible without remap.

As per this. Its a euro4, it'll be fine.
To compare against a 2013 doesn't really correlate, as they're totally different ecu's.

Dear Stu,
If you are saying I can replace it on my Euro 4 without a problem so I'm going down to work right now! Its 23:00 at night But who cares! I want the Short ones on! Wohoooooo)))))

There is NO need for Norton maps or for a proper fuel maps! There is only a need for the Cable so I can take it to the Dyno and the expert there can connect to the ECU and make the bike healthier then ever!!!
JUST NEED THE ECU CABLE.

The ecu is not tuner level from what I recall ie you can only install the Norton maps.... and as mentioned before, you also need the gin file.... the maps are useless without it.

I think I will have the software very soon, I need to receive it from the dealer here. And then I will send it to you and to who ever wants it.
Or better to someone here that have the email of all the friends here and can send it in one email to everyone...

2013? I’m not sure what you mean? I don’t have a 2013 and I don’t believe he does either.

Well, I put the short ones on, the sound is amazing like a V8! BUT the bike doesn’t ride so good.. It chunked and also make backfire…
CAN IT DAMAGE THE ENGINE?

Maybe I need to ride 100 miles and force the bike to like the short mufflers🤣

I NEED THE ECU CABLEEEEE)))))))))))))))))
Frustrated as Shi*!

If its running shit, then yeah you're most probably going to need to remap it.

Now, the easiest way to get your head around this, is to say this out loud...

I.
NEED.
THE.
GIN.
FILE.

WITHOUT.
IT.
THE.
MAPS.
ARE.
USELESS.

AS.
IS.
THE.
LEAD.

😆🤪

NOT Running like shit, now on my way back it was much much better. Just a little bit jumpy in the low RPM... I can live with that for now.

BUT is it ok or it CAN DAMAGE THE ENGINE?
If it can damage the engine then I need to take them off right now.

Gin File you mean the software?
I also been told that the "cable drivers" are needed, What are these drivers?

Thanks Stu!
