961 is back !

Correct.
And the 961 was made originally to use those same lifters.

My point is, if they now use something that is different in dimensions and requires machine work or bushings to fit properly, I’m not interested in tearing into my bikes just to see if it fits, all because their tight lipped.

If they went from a cheap China made lifter to a comp cams or quality brand I’m on board for that.
I would imagine they just cleaned up the cam slightly as they didn't tout any HP increase. Slight changes on lift, duration, etc may have been done to smooth out the engine.

As stated above the oil pump(volume mostly and pressure) won't handle a performance lifter

Why am I so negative?

He gets it. But will he buy one?

The 961 has been out for how long?
Since 2010.
In those 10 years of production, we have no straight answer of how many were made and sold.

Nearly all of us on this forum have bought or owned a SG 961.
Knowing of the issues, why did you buy one? And what kept someone else from not buying one?

I’m sorry to say this, but I don’t think TVS is going to sell anything close to what supposedly sg sold.

I know the bike market is retro style nowadays, but for most, so is performance per dollar value.
The 961 is old news with a new owner.

I hope I’m wrong and I’m glad TVS is offering the Commando again. But I’m disappointed in the tight lipped nature of TVS.

Plus add the price point and there are a dozen other better options. This is a very narrow slice of market they are appealing towards.

Worth noting that a cleanup may also have extended to changing the grind to reduce port robbing. If you improve the idle stability, you also improve the chatter from the backlash gears.

Hello,

I have mounted S&S lifter for 25 000 Kilometer and they work without problems and the oilpressure is OK.

I have purchased a set of S&S lifters based on City Garage’s recommendations and look forward to trying them out.

That's great to hear. My post was about the "performance" version of these tappets(lifters) that requires or works better with higher oil pressure. The standard S&S lifters have worked well for us. And the stock HD work as well.

Are you checking your oil pressure with a gauge, and does your bike have the intake inline oil filter?

This is good news guys - no, it’s great news! Opens up spares and the potential to adopt their improvements to our machines. This is clearly not about the 40, they are re-ntroducing an awesome looking machine which was already 99% developed for them and with ten years of Beta testing - why wouldn’t they? We are only guessing that they no longer have the rights to make the engine, it may well be a shared rights situation.

Flashback on this.
We already knew the commando was coming. Why did they just last week announce new news before Christmas?

Oil gauge and filtersystem from Ollie

Maybe something else is coming?
Yeah the 961 commando. The v4 cafe and sv.
My next guess will be electric bicycles. 😂

How hard is it to pedal a bicycle that one would actually need an electric or gas motor on one. Takes the whole purpose of the bicycle out of the equation.

Yeah, but you get to wear lycra and helmets to look the part without getting sweaty :)

How many 961 and v4 will it take for TVS to sell to make money?
I ask because they said UK bike sales only, and I can’t see them selling much of either. Not to mention their multimillions invested into that state of the art building we all know about.
