22 year old and my first norton 650 ss :) from england

Thanks Eddie :) Yeah just a few mobile snaps Got a tiny bit of footage to edit usual route I've been doing on my lil quick mini rides bout 50 mins of riding in total for the route I take just enough at the moment as I've hurt my darn leg haha so can only manage kicking her over a handful of times it is on the mend though.

Oh Damn Ashley they do do that sorta stuff over here in certain areas I tend to just chill out ride wise on the roads over here used to do Track stuff so got all the need for speed outta my system :)

Thanks Ashley that sounds ace I always fancied the cafe racer look

I've been hoping to go over to Norway an Denmark on a bike Mike been hearing that about over there of a few people.

Ended up having to cut the trip short today as just after that layby I noticed a tiny bit of oil kicking around one of the base nuts an my darn wrenches were all next to the Commando crank on my desk oopps! Usually super prepared lol broke my own rule today of not making sure my tools were with me first time I've needed them on her an I didn't have them. Should be out on her again later in the week dependant on what restrictions get announced tomorrow I might be stuck to just the local rides. One good thing is the leak was super slight so was just a case of nipping them up an hey presto perfect.

One thing I have found interesting was riding the modern t100 the other week the lack of attention people seem to pay to indicators whenever I'm on the 650ss you see people visually look at the hand signals happy I put the small mirror on to.

Had to tweak the idle on the monoblocs on the ride to as they were sitting a bit high they always seem really sensitive to road inclines etc guess that's the trade off with running the chopped setup, gonna refine it a bit more this week on the next ride.

Off topic: In Sweden we have more and more speed cameras. But to get a ticket the photo must have a readable front licence plate and an identification of the rider. No front plate required on a bike and a full face helmet = no ticket. There is also warning signs at least 250 meters before the cameras.

To make it worse in Sweden the speed limits are generally lower than most other countries in Europe. And, I was told it’s pretty much zero tolerance on breaking the limits.

Is that last part true ?

Correct, speed limits are ridiculously low. But less than 5km/h over limit, no problem. Spending on cameras has diminished funding to police control on roads. If you travel from south to north of Sweden, just a 1000miles, you might spot one or if lucky two police cars. So driving legal speed + VAT is quite normal.

Mini ride on the Norton 650SS base lining the carb idle after a few adjustments. :) hit a tiny issue which meant I had to turn back as a preventative measure an cut my ride short really easy fix though an she's allready fixed for another ride (note to self dont leave toolkit on workbench) been working on the Commando chassis tear down today.

Hi Tom

Nice video. I think you ride that route very well and your 650ss is a lovely machine. I I flew into Manchester from the south east yesterday afternoon, was sunny and I had a good view of the cat.

Now the Cat & Fiddle is covered with average speed cameras (50mph) I fail to see the attraction. We went over to Bakewell a year ago to visit relatives & I had to ease off to avoid breaking the limit & we were in the Range Rover. I wouldn't even bother going there on a bike.

Thanks Martin :) It's my local road hence all the videos up there as whenever I get a spare 20-40 mins I'll nip out up there especially with all the covid stuff lately I've not been wandering to far out. Might have a spin out to Matlock over the weekend though been crazy busy helping dad with the house repairs so not had much chance to go further.

I actually don't mind it tbh Matchless being a local before the cameras the amount of people who would cross double white lines head on at you both cars and bikes was ridiculous made it miles safer up there mainly use it as a jumping off point to go into the peaks some stunning views as well.

Had another ride out today to fettle the idle a bit more ended up nailing it today super happy! Also opened her right up the roar was insane sounded amazing an reminded me of my Commando sound wise.

Can't wait to share the video with you all when it uploads.

Hit some typical local weather for this time of year pea soup the gopro superview makes it look super mild compared to how it was haha.

Great day all round.

Video is up from today's ride not much to report really apart from the fact it was freeeeeeezing haha! really didn't expect the fog. Trying to show a bit more of the odd adjustment etc when I'm out an about Stuff like that rather than just one camera of me riding on her.

You bike sounds exactly like my 650ss.
They noise is very different from a Commando.
I suspect it's mainly in the different shaped silencers. Some of it will be the different displacement.

haha totally mate shocking ;) she really smooths out at the higher revs she's over geared slightly so probably gonna alter the gearing when I get the new chain. I really wanna do a track day on her at Mallory when things are back to Normal if they ever get back to normal. Glad I've got the idle to settle down nice now really bang on again like I used to have it before infact I'd say its a bit better now did the usual drill bit trick one cylinder at a time on idle thing then tweaked it when hot as it was sitting a bit high in the previous video after a quick stretch then low at the start of this video nailed it towards the end I got bored and cleaned the carbs a few weeks back lol as per not that they needed it haha idle hands an all that back to her usual self now.

Itching to get the Commando back together gonna try go flat out on getting that done for the Christmas ride that we usually do. All that's left really for the 650SS is to find a good chromer for the rear guard that I got from Noc I'm gonna need to get some new front stays to as the chrome is flaking a bit on those apart from that she's stood up really well to the rubbish weather. My old man always thinks I'm mad going out in the wet maybe its youthfull exuberance haha that I don't seem to be loosing into my 30s crazy to think even though I got the modern t100 an the past few weeks I've been out none stop on the Norton they really did make such amazing bikes in the 60's. I'm probably gonna let dad use the modern bonnie on a few rides out an I'm most likely gonna use the Commando for my Norway trip an let dad use the bonnie :)

...young tearaway. :-)
Mobile speed cam van at the far edge of a village last ride. It was pleasant weather and failed to pay attention.
Fortunately it was reading traffic in the opposite direction.
What nonsense this school marm stuff is.
Don't get pinched.

Hire a van and take both yer Norton’s to the Mallory Festival of 1000 bikes when / if it returns. It’s a tremendous opportunity to get some track time with (mainly) like minded people. A lot of people just don’t realise how much fun you can have giving an old bike its head on a track. It’s fabulous! Maybe settle some old scores between mates (or fathers and sons) as well ;) !

Regarding your Scandinavian plan, I say bloody well go for it. I’ve never been there on a bike but will do soon. Big and beautiful open country with low populace. And the most friendly and open people you could wish for. Just be very mindful of speed limits and speed cameras, especially in Sweden.

luckily I don't speed Onder enough hazards with the potholes an the cage drivers on mobiles :) ride with a few mates who are in the force an I got all of that out of my system on a full on IOM TT 675 Daytona on trackdays :) which now lives in a private Collection in Germany. Just open her up where we are allowed in the nationals.

Oh yep deffo Eddie I helped a mate on his TZ's at the Festival such a brilliant weekend that was.

Itching to get over there happy I'm getting the frame done on the Commando will give me piece of mind for a big trip like that I was saying to dad I think i would always regret it not using one of the Norton's. Looks amazing doesn't it my mums mum although she never knew her was Danish so always wanted to go.

You can get a ferry from the North East over time Denmark, take the twisty route across Denmark, spend a night in Copenhagen, then cross the bridge into Sweden and head North!

One of the schemes at the back of my dusty and cluttered mind is to do that and ride up to the arctic circle through Norway and back down through a bit of Finland and then Sweden.

Don’t think I’d try in on my Norton, not really a clip ons and rearsets kind of gig for me !

Maybe one day...

Contrary to Eddie I'd say that keeping speed limits is more important in Norway.
If you happens to ride through Sweden on your way to Norway, don't bother about Swedish speed cameras. They only gives a ticket to vehicles with a front number plate and a clear picture of the face.
