22 year old and my first norton 650 ss :) from england

Funny you mention grips..... Unbeknownst to me at the time my front sprocket was hooking giving some bad vibes which I disliked.... Didn't know where they were coming from in the beginning... did ISO's.... went through clutch/primary(chain, sprockets, bearings, etc.)... for grins pulled rear primary case and there was the cause in all it's glory(badly worn 21T sprocket w/hooks). In meantime had bought new super duper vibe vanishing miracle grips which prove horribly uncomfortable so put the original 46 year old ones on and rediscovered total comfort.... I've had a couple of bikes that could shake the fillings out of your teeth, but a good set of grip made them feel not so bad. The English did put quality grips on their machines.... At least NV did. Forgive my prattling on, but I'll chase unusual vibration until the cows come home.

Oh yep the standard grips are really good mine that's for sure. I agree mate it's really interesting perfecting our bikes love fettling them as much as possible. One day I'd love to build another commando with a really refined engine.

I use my GL to go shopping all the time..... Can't carry very much so it makes you shop wisely.... I've ridden rain, wind, snow, heat..... I do draw the line with ice though... Oh, Los Angeles too because I consider that abomination a hazard I'll never repeat

Just had 850 out for about 25mi. and feel 40 years off my age. God! That scooter has a way of making life so grand.

Took my 58 Domi 88 out yesterday. What a wonderful day to go out for a ride. The only thing the "powers that be" want is for you to wear a mask when going into a business. Going out for a post election ride with friends on Wednesday.

Hi Tom nice vid as usual. Your‘e a good rider. The road before your stop looks completely different to the same road on the way back, strange. Look forward to the next vid.

Cranking them on mate :) ride pretty much every day again even if its just local to the shops every ride is a fun ride on the Norton. Don't have to go far for stunning roads which does help keep it sensible. 4 mins and I can be on roads similar to the southern 100 course on the Iom with hardly any cars on them which are all national. If I'm not careful I could quite easily do 30k a year on her as I love riding it that much. At least the Commando is nearly done an same for the 16h so should be able to split the miles between them a bit.

Gonna be using the 68 Commando for some long distance trips.

When the SS needs to come apart for a refresh at least I've got the confidence to do it with what I've learnt on the Commando. It's very satisfying being able to work on my own bikes gives me alot of confidence to wander off into the countryside knowing I can weild a spanner if needs be. Seems like a lifetime ago when I first got her from John I could never be without her thats for sure.

Thanks Martin I just try to be smooth and safe and leave myself plenty of time for the unexpected. It helps I know where all the entrances are on the roads to as its my current favourite route.

I did take the gopro with me today same route but pulled up at a cool new spot, so should have some more footage coming over the next few days takes a bit to edit it as I've only got my ancient mobile phone.

I'm not gonna be out for a few days now on her as I wanna get the new chain on it's done a load of winter an wet riding so rather be safe than sorry.

In a bit of other news one of the Japanese classics went just gotta sell the rd350lc an 250lc I'm letting go an I can start hunting for a rigid 30s inter or a pre 1928 model 18 :) can't decide between the pair still.

I like the sound of your mufflers. My Atlas has the original mufflers from 1966, my only complaint is that they're too quiet, I like the bark of the pea shooters but they don't look right on the Atlas. Where did yours come from?

To say I'm happy is an understatement I honestly didn't know when I'd be back on the Norton 650ss. I picked up a nasty neck injury that has taken forever to get right.

Tonight for the first time in an absolute age I've managed to get out on the 650SS. I've had to do a few things differently to usual like bump starting Al la Geoff Duke style after a few failed kickstart attempts due to the pain. The sheer joy of putting some miles on a classic British bike again utterly priceless.

I was surprisingly comfortable as always once underway. Hopefully if things go to plan with the rd250lc sale I might be doing the same on a Norton flat tanker. Bit sore now but being able to ride her again is such a relief I'll be putting a video up later in the week from the ride.

What did you do to your neck ? If you don't mind me asking
I had a bike crash in 1984 where I hit a lampost and injured my neck
It's never stopped hurting
Cheers

Thanks guys I tore a muscle unfortunately Baz an pinched a nerve so was a bit of a double whammy taking a while to get right It's mad how excruciating the pain can be. Bit of an old injury that I've agrivated tightening an elsie stator up lol started hunting for a flat tank Norton in other news

hope we are all well :) as a few will have seen on some of the pics earlier in the week I had my first spin out on my daily rider Norton 650ss as I'm recovering from a neck injury. felt so great to get out! I had to do a few things differently bump starting her with a push rather than kick starting as it hurts my neck to much at the moment. So in true British spirit of adapting an overcoming I got out on her.

I'm still so relieved that I managed to put some miles back on her as I was going stir crazy not riding my baby felt like I'd lost a part of myself an felt amazing being back on her.

Anyway I hope you all enjoy the 2 min video as much as I did filming it for you all.
