What's happening at Norton? Sale to TVS, massive investment, new bikes...

Is Mr John Hogan a member on here? Is he talking about the same Access Norton?
Currently, inviting anyone from the outside to this forum is the last thing I would do if I were running communications!

He was. He introduced himself. Made one, perhaps two posts and then vanished …

OK, perhaps understandable, but I would at least hope that he is lurking on here and is putting up some sort of fight on the inside. ...I don´t actually believe that.

Who knows !?

A quick look on Linked In shows that he is still in this role at Norton…

No chance of me changing your mind Scott, we are both aware of that immovable object😂- why would I even try! It was made up long ago.

With respect, I believe (if honest) you would agree that you have no capacity to see beyond your personal experiences since purchasing your Nortons - and how that has shaped your outlook on the future.

To answer your question, I believe that Norton is doing exactly what they told us they intended to do, on multiple occasions, on multiple forums. They are developing a new model lineup that will include a range of ICE motorcycles (twins) and a Norton EV (or range of EV’s). Something for everyone is one of the usual quotes - I take that to mean price range.

In the interim, they are trying to sell re-engineered stop gap models inherited from Donington. By design partly to keep the restless natives at bay.

Why are they not actively promoting future models at this moment in time? Because Norton has learnt lessons from mistakes of the past. This was explained to you personally Scott, not so long ago. We have discussed it many times.

That leaves us with a choice right? We choose to believe that this multi-national automotive giant has a plan for the future - intent to significantly expand their product range and export when the timing is right (and the situation permits).

Or, we choose to reject (or disbelieve) that narrative and fill the (explained) void in information with crushingly repetitive and speculative negativity. If anybody could explain to what end, I’d be fascinated to know.

I’m pretty certain of one thing though. They are not sat around dreaming up ways in which they can screw over Donington owners.

They are far from faultless but I believe that this forum, and a significant proportion of its content, bears absolutely no resemblance to the effort I suspect is being spent in Solihull in order to make Birmingham Norton a success.

My thoughts only.
They have a 10 year plan and 4 have already passed by.
Do I think they personally screw Donington owners over? No.

Do I think they treat potential customers wrong?
Yes.
Do I think their ideas of building interest into the brand is lackluster?
ABSOLUTELY!

Isn't this what they call "old' news?? Or last years news?

Hi Scott , I just think how nice it could have been if TVS Norton would have brought us (Donington 961) owners along . What I mean is give us a grace period of parts supply and then we would have been right there for them to buy a new bike. As the new Commando evolved most of us would have been ready for a new Commando by then. Now , I am just unhappy and frankly scratching my head again. These TVS folks have made a faulty calculation if they leave us without spares , just saying .

Hey Tony,

Did your spares enquiry go in via parts@nortonmotorcycles.com ? Or other email address.

Gonna try the direct approach next week - see if we can find out whats happening. Useful to have facts straight; not gonna mention any names obviously.

most recently this address :

sales@nortonmotorcycles.com
and finally this
Keith Parry <Keith.Parry@nortonmotorcycles.com

So Stephen , If you can get somebody over there to take your call it would be great . Let us know what email we need to use. Thanks , Tony
No problem Tony, that’s the intent if I can get to speak to someone ‘in the know’.

No point in speculating, but it seems like there may be something going on in the background - most probably linked to current 961 sales.

Can’t help though, that as a group we’re using three or four different email addresses for parts requests.

What also bothers me, the TVS Norton bike owners will probably also be treated the same in the near future.

I can’t find it In myself to be optimistic about the future of Norton when TVS Norton treats and runs its business the way it’s been doing so.

Let me use this as an example.
Dodge / Chrysler has been owned by many different automotive manufacturers in the past.
Recent years it’s been Mercedes, fiat , Stellantis.
I know that’s not an accurate comparison to TVS, but, the point I’m trying to make is this.

Before, during and after all these switching of owners, you were still able to buy replacement parts for past, current and future vehicles.

They also kept you the customer in the loop as to what was to come.
If you owned a vehicle prior to the new owner take over, they didn’t keep you from buying spare parts or supplies, they didn’t refuse to work or service your pre existing vehicle.

Why is it that TVS wants nothing to do with pre TVS owners?
Why does TVS Norton feel the need to hide everything?

I know I’ve said this before, but I really don’t care if Norton fails as a brand under TVS ownership. For me, the love is gone.

It’s not that I don’t love the Nortons that I have, it’s that I don’t have the feelings for the brand because TVS norton took that love away.

I strongly feel that Garner, had more passion for the brand as a whole, than what TVS has for the brand.
I know in the end, Garner was a crook and what he did was wrong. Nobody can say otherwise, but I believe he truly had a bigger dream for Norton than what TVS has.
He and his team knew how to build the excitement of the Norton brand, they drew inspiration and attention.
Not so with TVS Norton.

I don’t care what TVS norton is planning for the future, the reason why I don’t care, is because they themselves do not care about their customer base.
Some will disagree and say I’m full of hate and negativity, that’s fine, but I own two 961 Nortons, and I had planned to own more, unfortunately, that will never happen again.
Unless it’s a 1970s or older model.

Another ridiculous game played by a company.
I was getting responses from Scott Gibson when I was trying to get part’s decades ago.
Email was: parts@nortonmotorcycles.com
The last email exchange I had with them was exactly a year ago. 10-18-2022.

That was my point when I said that ’new 961 owners will become legacy owners’. Which will happen when TVS drop the 961.

I KNOW that guys are looking at new 961s… and at the current parts debacle… and the thoughts of being in that same place are at least contributing to decisions not to buy.

It’s not rocket science. Anyone who understands anything about this kind of motorcyclist knows that they are going to be thinking about how they maintain and fix it long term.
