No problem with it , Just want it for future . Many of the parts Norton used seem now to be obsolete or discontinued. If you wait until you need it , may not be available then . Now you are stuck trying to find something that might be the same or might work etc. And if you think you were frustrated before just wait . And I don't like having my bike down (not working) if I can help it , that's the bottom line for me. I have stated in an earlier thread , when we really need parts (Norton 961 specific) its going to be tough sledding . Oh , I have located the rectifier/regulator too now. I can post a link to that , it is a standard Japanese bike part on a CBR900RR and many others.

Hi there,
Going over my 961 Sport and checking forum noted problem areas and so far so good, looks like they're covered on the newer bikes, bought mine Dec. 19. Can't locate an airbox temp sensor but see something in the vicinity, rear of the injectors, that looks like it could be it. Tried investigating via the airbox from the filer mount but with all the additional cabling and tubing the air filter is no longer removable.

My Cali has a tube at base of airbox on left rear. Is this a later mod. to avoid water collection??

This is the air box drain and the early bikes had this plugged and all residuals would stay in the air box until you un-plugged the drain. The later bikes put in a catch bottle and let the oil or water drain into this bottle which you later emptied .

Email SCS Delta , they will know where you can find a compatible sensor I would think.

Ordered one yesterday arrived this morning £6-50 free p&p will keep in the 961 parts bin just in case, I am in for the long haul.

My dad discovered this and made a fix.

There is an AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR in the air box that could be a problem that most don't even know about. The problem is when ever you wash your bike or it rains, this area where the sensor is mounted fills with water.

So now it will either corrode or short out.

THE FIX

- Remove your rear wheel, hugger and airbox.
- Fill any void with dielectric grease
- make a drain (if this is within your skill set)
- replace air box with care as not to fold over the rubber boot which will happen very easily)


Since my dad has done this, all the idle issues have gone away. Bike starts perfect and idles off the button in cold and in warm temp.

I've been looking at using a lift similar to that in the picture but find the lower frame tubes too restricted without removing the exhaust. Hard to see but any clues welcome. Eventually I'd like to centralise the exhaust, another job for my next winter to-do list.

Have a look at the Honeywell ES110-0017 , these are not discontinued .

Actually the ES110-0017 may be discontinued , And I have one in hand now . The only difference between 0017 and 0016 is the 0016 is M10 x 1.25 thread and 0017 is M12 x 1.5 thread , so won't thread in . But otherwise identical in operation . There is another threaded hole with a plug in the air box , Have to ask David C. if it is M12 or M10 otherwise I gotta take mine apart . ON Line Components will order the ES110-0016 but it is a 14 week lead time like Gchoppin said . No minimum order , you can get just 1 .

Hello Gchoppin , You may want to revisit the site at Master . The delay I thought was the lead time for the manufacturer to supply it once they have an order . So I think you gotta order it otherwise it never comes in ? I placed an order with ON LIne Components in Pheonix AZ ., They ship overseas if you cant find it over there ..

Pleasantly surprised once removed, warm hands and Vaseline, really well made and clean accepting 1 small piece of swarf and a smidge of oil in the airbox, a few grains of dust in the filter. In this late model, the temp. sensor is mounted in the roof of th e airbox, forard' of the cartridge. Still curious of the sensor now mounted on an additional bracket immediately behind the fuel rail, can't ref it anywhere.

Are you saying you have another sensor on your bike mounted on a bracket behind the fuel rail ? You have a newer Euro 4 machine , must be the MAP sensor ? The SCS DELTA ECU has the MAP sensor built in .

Yep, can't make out if it's piped anywhere without removing the tank. Another day perhaps.

Yes it does , Must be wired to the ECU through the harness .

Dont suppose anyone has the numbers from the later air temp sender? I cant remember the brand, but it looked like a Lucas sender unit (same Bosch style connector).

I didn't know they had changed the air box temp sensor ?

From what I recall, the later ones were all brass with just the black connector?
