NEW NORTON ATLAS MOTORCYCLE

Simon, I know you can’t reveal too many details or specifics ahead of time, but, is the lightweight sports 650 still on the cards ??

Brilliant, thanks Simon.

And bloody well done by the way !

Yep, fair play , credit where it's due. There's obviously a lot of hard work been done to bring that bike to production so quickly
I don't think it's my type of machine ( I'm more than happy with my Cali) but it looks a hell of an alternative to the Ducati scrambler and bikes of the same ilk.
Well done
sam

Looks good overall, but I too prefer a sporty version.
It would also look better with a supercharger bolted on.:p

The more I look at it, the more I like it. Can't wait to hear all of those polite reviews from across the pond. Like "lovely acceleration" instead of "yahoo...this things got balls".

The lower end torque may not be what your used to like the 961 . The difference will be noticeable 64NM vs 90NM . Hopefully the light weight will help it. The weight somewhere around 60 lbs less than Commando ? I think it needs to be 100 lbs less to be off road . And 5 HP more on top end. The Nomad has a squat muscular look to it in my eyes , I hope it is a great bike !

According to some the 961 is well over 500lbs in reality, if so, the new ones are indeed 100lbs or so lighter, and that’s a big chunk (must weigh mine one day)!

Anyway, its the Ranger that does it for me, looks more ‘purposeful’ in my eyes. Kinda bike that doesn’t need cleaning cos it looks more ‘honest’ and ‘rugged’ when dirty!

I like the idea of a bike that doesn’t need cleaning!

Not sure I’m convinced enough to pull the trigger until there are more reviews tho and / or I can ride one.

As already stated by others, I’m not sure if the 11,000rpm Redline is a statement as to the nature of the motor and required riding style. It’s nice to have ACCESS to a high rpm for sure... but I don’t want a bike that NEEDS it in order to make good progress.

Such motors can be defined as fun... but can be defined as tiresome...

I’d be wanting a broad ish spread of power / torque. I notice that the blurb doesn’t state the revs at which peak torque is delivered.

Of course, super chargers are a good way of increasing torque...

Its that same data sheet that came out on the 961 stating 205 KG dry = 450 lb dry . SO ready to ride 500 to 515 lbs. The question is how much will the Nomad really weigh ? 178 KG = 391 lb dry so ready to ride gas full 440 to 450 LB ? That doesn't matter too much to me if it is a great bike. It will be a road bike for me and touring with it. So I need stable smooth economical gas etc. And the gas tank is really too small , 6 gals needed . I hope they get a bigger tank option !

Tony,

With a supercharger the 650 would have blown balls.

Disclaimer:
Sorry,I apologize for the unfortunate imagery of my prior statement that may offend others reading this thread.

In a year or so, the real weight will be posted. And thanks, Fred. Still trying to unsee that. Either painful or pleasurable.

Strewth guys, let’s not take this thread over with this topic please!

So far, no one has said anything negative about Thai built bikes in this thread.

In fact Thailand hasn’t even been mentioned at all with regards to new Norton’s.

It was Korea that was mentioned. And even this turned out to be a myth.

The only detractor against buying a none Brit, Brit bike was me. And I put forward no actual reason other than personal choice.

@ Tony, there’s no way they’ll put a 6 gallon tank on this bike me thinks. It would pretty much upend the entire styling objective.
You’ll have to get your own made, think Paris Dakar style panier tanks...!

Hello again , I have a question about the silver plate at rear of the seat ,. The holes with the screens in ? Is this for decoration/looks or is it a airbox intake screen ?

I don’t know Tony, perhaps Rob will chime in next week (they’re ‘all hands on deck’ at the show this week).

Are you concerned about fitting panniers and covering them up?

If so, a chap was discussing fitting panniers to Simon Skinner at the show and Simon never mentioned any concerns. So I’m kinda thinking they’re only decorative.
