961 MARCH MEET UP ( UK)

When the bike nights at the factory start again I would like a meet there as well. Not sure when they start running again

Yes, definitely!

As has been mentioned before, we should go to one of the BBQ nights they have. If we do it when the weather is slightly more predictable, I for one would probably want to stay over night so I can ‘partake in a few’.

So long as there’s some other Nortoneers there to partake with of course !

Just a nudge chaps to jog ur memory into remembering that a week this Sunday, the first day of spring , in sleepy Surrey “ Rykas Cafe “ at Box hill Surrey will be the first ( and not the last ) of 961 meets , hoping for least 6 of yer nortoneer types to attend ,so set ur tripometer thingy on the speedo & we will see who has the most miles on the day, be bout 90 for me .but just think of our transatlantic cousins who live in hundreds& thousands of miles apart,c u all on Sunday 25th March

The weather is looking good for this coming Sunday boyz (hope ive not just jinxed it for y’all)!

I’ve got family stuff on, so won’t be joining you this time unfortunately.

Have fun. And post pics!

I don't have my bike back yet so unable. Definitely up for the barbie though at DH and as you suggested Eddie, staying over. Hope the factory have a dry/secure place we can store overnight and then taxi to local hotel/inn.

DGR 2018 -won't be long before this is being planned. I was in Kuala Lumpur last time and tried to get a pillion ride but all the replies said they had single seaters. This year hope to be here so maybe Cambridge or London if not chocca block booked up. Would be great if the factory organised a group to do the London ride

Agreed, I would be keen on that.

What would also be really nice would be an organised ride (with Factory representation) to the NOC International Rally at the Red Bull Ring in Austria in August. The area is stunningly beautiful with some of the best riding in Europe. If you want to bypass the boring bits there is a transport company who will take your bike and gear to Geneva for a not-too-unreasonable price.

That does sound good Clive but alas, difficult at my time of life, too much work and too many kids. In a few years maybe.
But back to Norton BBQ nights, I see Stuart Garner has a place: http://www.thepriesthouse.co.uk

Any Norton owners discount, or are bikers banned?

He must sell a lot of fireworks as well

Spoke to Clem on Friday as I had been told the 25 of August would be the date for the 50th Commando Anniversary BBQ but he told me there is no date as yet.

Ladies and Gents - I have been thinking about a motorcycle tour in Nepal. Non Norton topic so apologies but what a fantastic ride it would be, probably on Royal Enfields. Thinking about the 7 day tour titled thin air

Is that at all of interest to anyone. Best months are October/November I believe but if not this year, I am targeting next. I WILL do it.

I just want to add, If Stuart Garner is interested, I would be happy to road test the new scrambler and make a review.

I’ve never been to Nepal but I have ridden an Enfield in India. I did it with a mate, no organised tour etc.

It was the scariest, stupidest, most dangerous thing I think I’ve ever done.

I’ll NEVER do it again! The only way I’d ever ride a motorcycle there again would be as part of an organised tour with experienced tour guides as they will no the best, and safest places to go.

The tour you show looks really good. I’d be up for it one day, but not this year.

Agree with you Eddie used to live in South Africa in the 80s they have a thing called a Breakfast run on Sunday mornings. First time I went I was the only rider without a side arm put the fear of death into me sold the bike not long after that.

Last call for the MARCH 961 MEET UP, weather looks clear, road,s should be , so we are good to go , so for anyone that’s reading this forum as a guest or if ur a norton owner from the other access norton forums & have an curious interest then come on down , be warned though u may come away with a sub conscious urge to head straight to the factory or nearest norton dealer ( as many existing 961 owners already have The oringinal commando ) ,I’m fortunate that I’ve already met a few of u,but I do remember warning my kids to beware of internet chat rooms & definitely don’t arrange to meet up with strangers ! But anyone with a bike ain’t a stranger for long are they , I’m aiming for 11.00a.m. this Sunday ( remember the clocks “ SPRING forward & FALL back ) so reset ur watches ,but try get there for 12 noon , Toodle oo

Hello Welshrugby , My wife and I have stayed at the Priest House . It was very nice but the costs are higher . Its only about half mile down the road from Norton Factory. We actually walked to Norton when we stayed there. We spent 2 nights in Castle Donington and the 2nd night stayed at the Donington Manor Hotel. Not as elegant but much less expensive. This is the place I would stay if going to Norton again. Small restaurant and bar right on premises and lots to see and other restaurants across the street or just a few blocks away . If you want to give the wife a "treat" , then by all means go to Priest House . But if I was going with a bunch of my riding Buddies , then The Donington Manor would be my choice .
