Dear friends,

The black streak continues…

On October 13th 2018, a Calamity Jane on 4 wheels cut my way, destroyed my Norton and me as well in the process: 2 weeks in ICU, 2 cardiac arrests, my broken hip 2 months in traction.

On January 1st 2021, my daughter Helga lost her fight to Cancer.

Next week, on July 13th, I will go through open heart surgery, quadruple coronary bypass and 2 new valves.

I know I somewhat owe it to myself, as I have been a heavy smoker since I was 13, I knew I could expect to pay the price one day.
Many people tell me it is a routine operation, yet I realize it will be much more serious than a simple appendicectomy.

The surgery will take place in Alost, reputedly amongst the best cardiac specialists in Europe, but with my usual luck I can foresee some complications, if a surgeon forgets a grip-key inside for instance!
The hardest part is likely to be the 6 months re-education period, another motorcycle season gone…

I know I already lived through 9 lives, I am now hoping for a tenth.

Of course, I am planning a big party in September to celebrate my resurrection.

My friend Bruno Stevens will keep you informed on this thread and through Facebook since no visits will be allowed during my foreseen 10 days stay at the hospital.

As soon as I’ll get home, you will all be welcome to come and visit me!

Thank you all for your support,

YVES VAN HEERS

All the best Yves...

My wife once said to me, 'Considering all the crazy things you've done... you're lucky to be alive!' I have to agree.

I'm sure that you will have one awesome party in September, and an improved version of yourself when all done.

July 7th update:

Last night Yves had a minor alert, so he went this morning to the hospital where he will receive his heart surgery next week. It was decided that they are keeping him in observation, probably until the operation. His morale is good, I just spoke with him, he is very happy to report that he has stopped smoking 10 hours ago, a first since 1963.
Thank you all for your support.

A few years ago I had a double bypass heart op. Then I had 3 strokes. The carotid artery clearance op worried me much more than the heart op. It a bit gets away, you can end up as a mind locked in a body without the ability to communicate. I was supposed to be on the operating table for half an hour - I was under for four hours. But I am alive - that is the main thing. Life goes on, when it could have stopped. Danger is all in the mind. I have worked where I could be instantaneously vapourised. You learn to be careful and not worry about what you cannot change..

Yves,

I'm thinking you're good for 12 life's, unless the Doctor is named Mobutu, then who knows what'll happen. You might end up with double and have 24.

I wish you a quick recovery, also keep your spirits up and maintain a positive attitude because there's another Norton somewhere needing a home.

Keep a positive attitude and you will be OK, put your trust in the good people doing the work and think about that big party when you have recovered, all the best and good wishes.
