WTF now

Bits arrived from Ollie. @TonyA The chain is the same as the one fitted originally and is definitely a "Bush Chain"

The nylon tensioner blades are a much better design and must be quieter I would have thought?

WTF now

@Stu Bodycote ( or anyone else who knows) I have a question if you don't mind. When tensioning the chain the manual says 2mm play. Do I just use something like a drill bit, or does it need to be 2mm all the way along?

Cheers,

cliffa.

I would try the drill bit first. Then go back and check with a ruler for 2mm free play after tightening bolts. What you are showing in the picture is the type I have on my 2014 961. Thanks for the feedback !

I wasn't too keen on the way the new upper block relies on the inner plactic shoulders to hold it in place and apparently they have been known to loosen as there is no compression limiter on them. So I had a little think and came up with this alternative way to fix it. It's an aluminium plate the same shape as the rear of the block with two M3 screws to hold it to the nylon block and longer bolts obviously ( I would have preferred to use studs, but I I used what I had on hand). I had to remove a bit of material from one of the inner casting webs on the outer cover as it clashed with the upper bolt, but probably wouldn't have needed to if I had used thinner steel for the plate and different bolts. It's all buttoned up now and I took it out for a test ride. All good, but I was very alarmed as I waited for the fresh oil to circulate in the dim garage. The right hand downpipe started to glow red as it was ticking over!! I seemed to remember this is not unheard of, and found this thread about it, which is quite relieving as I thought I'd screwed up the cam timing :eek::eek:

Cliffa,

Anodize the plates/bolts, and drill out bolt heads for safety wire, and I think you'll have a marketable product for 961 owners.
