I think maybe former editor Edwards was the man who had that one ... I think a cartoon of him in action on it appeared monthly on his page of comments on current issue of CW ... please correct me if I'm way wrong ...

Roadster. Black with gold...I guess I'm boring but always was and still is my favorite.

I personally think the Corbin seat should have been on the Roadster originally but them is fighting words so I won't say them :D

A couple of shots the wife took of my Long Range Fastback. It is genuine not a copy.

ya....early fastback with front drum & peashooters! Every single Commando model ever made will turn my head though !

My all time favorite Nortons are the desert racers and flat trackers like the P11 with its unneeded items removed on purpose or about as soon vibrated/bounced off, kick stand too as genetic trait of a real Norton. What did the bad boy P11's tell the new Commandos, "I'm you Father" and used rubber protection in your Atlas mother.

I must admit...

The fastbacks never used to cross my mind, but a few of the ones that
have been posted on here are growing on me. Pretty hard not to like
anything Norton!

That would be an Interback, or perhaps an Interback S.
The look has grown on me over time.
That one is nicely done.

I like them all ..... but really like the looks of this one:
(what model would you call it?)

Stock model, Dave's is a custom although a few interbacks around.

There is a blue one of those 850 InterBack Scramblers around, that I'm rather partial to.
Already bought the paint and some bits.
All I need to do now is get the bike together for it....

You don't fool us - thats a Matchless, in all but name ... !
Tis a nice purposeful looking cycle though.

I'm with Stephen. My commute-to-work was a beat-up old 650SS that had been used for testing all sorts of things at Plumstead before it migrated to Marston Road. If the speedo was the original, the bike had 135,000 miles on it when I used it. It ran like a Swiss watch, never gave me any trouble (except for a blown head gasket once) and I enjoyed the 45-mile commute, all on country back roads, for the first 6 months I worked there. We moved closer to Wolverhampton later and I only had an 8-mile commute. Most of that was on the prototype AJS Stormer street/trail bike

All my Commando experience was on the two prototypes, which didn't have the final design fuel tank and were pretty non-descript in appearance. I don't think the Norton name appeared anywhere. That may have been a deiberate ploy to keep the program as quiet as possible during development.

Unfortunately, my last ride on the 650 was also its last, I was cruising down the M-6 freeway when the oil tank drain plug fell out and dumped all the oil. I managed to pull over to a rest area and the engine seized solid. It went back to the factory in the M-X team van and was still there when the place closed, I think.

Same bike different clothes.

Thats true of about all Commandos though, isn't it !?
So what are we discussing ere ?

You could almost say that about the gazillion models of HD's too,
except that they have several different engines to choose from ...

BTW, that dual tank version of yourn will never sell

Ah, but the question is which clothes do you prefer and the response parameters are 1. Commando as this is that forum and 2. must be stock Commando or as supplied by the factory. Interbacks are out. :)

The dual tank model is another string about original red color....I see that just came up again in todays new mail.

Well dang.................. then I guess I have to change my favorite to just a regular ol' interstate or maybe a fastback.
Actually, any of them are OK by me except for the high rider, I just don't like the styling . (never did - pretty certain I never will).

Dang I say too, no Interbacks.

If its all factory bits, though not as assembled by the factory, then just who made up these rules. ?
Its obviously the model they should have made...
