What Happens If?

Don't think it is the battery. What is the simplest and esiest way to check to see if the Charging system is operating properly?

Found crushed and damaged fuse holder. Replaced with new one yesterday along with a new 30 AMP fuse as I could not find new style mini fuse in 35 amp. Put the Battery Tender Charger on over night, came out this morning and it was in the green. Turned on ignition, checked all lights, signals, horn, and other obvious electical accesories and components, all working as Prince Lucas originally intended.

On Saturday I went on an outstanding 200 mile ride. Once it began to get dark, noticed that signals were not working and headlight appeared to be dimming. At last stop of the evening, along the waterway for a cold beverage... upon departure, no start condition. Got her home yesterday morning.

Guess I need to check battery voltage when I get home later, before and after starting.

Check batt volts and also the charging volts and also the volts when stuff turned on/off w/o running to help reveal the issue to spend on. Can't ever forget about the tail light woven ground wires fraying to dead short the whole bike, only when running or rolling.

somebody correct me if i am wrong here, but it is my understanding that british and american fuse ratings mean different things... i believe that a british fuse rated at 30 amps blows at about 30 amps and is designed to work at lesser loads... wheras an american fuse rated at 30 amps is designed to work, or handle on a continuous basis, current loads of about 30 amps and blow at a higher amperage.... hence one should be using an american fuse of about 15 amps... or maybe 20 but no higher... if you have an alternator that only cranks out 10 or 15 amps, under optimal conditions why would you put in a heavier fuse?.... seems to me, too heavy a fuse is an open invitation to fry some wires

no doubt similar discussions have been held on the board, but as a noob to the board, they are before my time... so pardon me if i am rehashing old issues here
