Yes , my 2 Canadian MK 111 's are ign. only , in key position 3.
I only use position 3 for initial start up ( Clutch lever in of course ) . The pilot light has been eliminated , ( as well as the problematic kill switch ) .
Once warmed up and ready to go the switch goes to position 4 , full lighting .
Mind you , I suspect both P.O.'s have played with the electrics , but I'm O.K. with the result.
The law here in Canada is lights on at all times . But I was told a while back that pre 1970 vehicles are exempt from daytime running of headlights.
Light it up like a Christmas tree .

Usually the deal is with the key in run position (engine off} was enuff to turn the headlight on & there was likely an interrupter setup, that turned the headlight off during cranking.

So headlight on with key position run, engine running or not. At least on post 75 jappers i've had.

Daytime running lights is usually headlights only, with some type of reduced intensity deal.

According to the Mk3 manual, it was "headlamp on when running".
Warning Light Assimilator

Although the other running lights (pilot, tail and instruments) come on with ignition (due to the Canadian model ignition switch) then if it had to include the headlamp there would have been no need for the Canadian lighting control unit.

Warning Light Assimilator

Power "Direct from Alternator" at "3 Ign." seems to be the headlamp only because the other lights including the tail lamp are fed by the battery (from Ign. Sw. T3) according to the Mk3 wiring diagram.
That clears it up completely. I need to read the recently acquired manual.
