What was the annual sticker cost before? I can't remember what it was back home, I just know it was nothing compared to 3rd party, and now I get it all in one here.
Any other advantages switching to historic in Ontario?
Here in South Australia, to get historic registration:
-30 years or older
-be a financial member of a recognized club
-can only drive 90 days during the financial year (July 1 to June 30)
-Enter the date and signature in a logbook before each ride/drive, in ink. If you get caught out on the road with no log book entry, you are riding uninsured and unregistered.
Regular registration/liability for my Commando would be around $700-800/year. Registering under the historic scheme makes it $110/year plus my club fees ($35). Registering historic also drastically reduces my full comprehensive insurance because they know I'm not on the road as often.
Ontario liability motor insurance is an absolute crime, as noted previously. You legally have to have, but there's no regulation on what they can charge you. I remember my last year in Ontario (2004), my insurance went up about $150 because my 1982 Katana 750 had an 'S' on the end the model name, GSX750S, which they interpreted as being a sport bike and therefore lumped it in the same category as modern liquid-cooled sport bikes. They just make up their own rules. There was a while in the late 90's when anything with a full fairing was considered a sportbike for insurance purposes. Mongrels
