Triumph Thruxton Fairing fitted to Norton 961 - I want one (a lot)!

One of the Floridian members here was bemoaning the lack of interesting rides in Florida.
I enjoyed his comment regarding cornering.
" The only time I get to try cornering is on a Freeway entrance ramp" :)

Mmmmmmm! Bit ‘fugly’! Looks like the guy that mounted it got the brackets upside down. Blantant heresy to fit anything fugly to this beutiful machine!

After the initial rush of blood to my head when I first saw the Sergio fairing I am still very keen, but have a few reservations creeping in. Inevitable I suppose; it’s not exactly a bolt on OEM part. There’s overseas manufacture, and shipping (which was a little dubious for Sergio), not to mention the significant engineering involved in mounting it. I’m going to contact Sergio again and hope to get the details for the guy in Sydney who fitted his fairing and see if he retained the information required to replicate the mounting hardware. I’d also like to discuss the potential of cracking with him.

BritTwit is guilty of raising the other concern that I cannot seem to shake, with his ‘meat slicer’ analogy (thanks BritTwit  ). I would need to satisfy myself WRT the risk profile.

Looks bloody good from every angle though - oooooooh! I can feel the blood rushing again!

Mea culpa.

I didn't mean to upset you, just to cause a pause for thought.
Someone also pointed out that on the street, rarely if ever does one high side, which I think is probably true.
When I was racing I did on a few occasions, dismount this way, so the experiences are indelibly etched in my mind.

As an option to the alloy fairing, AirTech makes a multitude of different half fairings in fibreglass, some for the track, some for the street.
Maybe you could find one that is suitable for your purposes. Try the attached link.

I like the RICCR1S - Rickman CR cafe short fairing – street

Not upset mate, just better informed. Really had’nt given the safety element any thought and when I did I was’nt catastrophising, just weighing up the likelihood and the associated risk. Can’t ignore it; let’s face it motorcycling is a risky enough proposition.

The AirTech fairings look ok, but not really as appealing as the ‘meat slicer’ option! We shall see.

Thanks for your input, it is appreciated.

Steve.

a std LM1 fairing wouldn't fit the 961 forks, as its made for a narrower yolks and forks. I have fitted a LM1 fairing to a more recent Guzzi and it was a pita.. as the mounts had to be remade. BTW I think a fairing from a Kawasaki Z900RS would work well. I have a carbon fibre one on another project. For a half fairing, I feel the original Ducati SS900 Demo would work well, the lines of the 961 remind me of my old desmo.

Nice, Thanks

The Desmo fairing looks OK, but I still think the Thruxton fairing works best with the lines/ proportions of the 961.

The Norton bikini fairing has always worked well IMO (mk2 shown here) offering some (minimal) protection also. Very expensive for what it is though.

Don’t think the LM1 fairing would work from an aesthetics perspective.

Which fairing is that? Bottom picture

Another half fairing which might work is that from the Magni arturu, similar to the Triumph, a little more retro in design

When I brought my 2016 Thruxton new in 2018 it had the fairing kit fitted and in British racing green, but the Thruxton tank differs from the Norton tank, but it fits the Thruxton pretty good, the fairing kit lower clip-ons was too low for me, but the stock clip-ons fitted just right for better comfort on long trips, they sit up 2" higher, I can ride all day without any problems, might be a bit of work making one fit a 961, but then who knows.
First pic is the first day I brought it home with the lower clip-ons and the second one with the stock clip-ons.
Maybe Norton should make a kit to fit.

Yep, there’s definitely work to do to get the Thruxton fairing to fit the 961. Bought the fairing, offered it up, assessed the mounting cage/brackets and we’ve discussed it here on the forum previously.

I found a custom firm to mount it in Brisbane - a few KM away from where it would be painted. The brief will be to fit, but to be mounted in such a way as to be completely reversible. Doable - just gotta pay the piper, or try yourself.

Lovin’ it naked:oops: - the way the biking gods intended. Will fit the fairing in future, possibly, maybe………….., well, sorta probably!

Ha that sounds like me with the little factory screen on my 961cr; 'Hey yes it looks so good with that screen fitted'. Then a month later; 'lets remind myself how it looks without - wow that's sooo much nicer'. A month later...........
