Throttle and Choke Cable Routing

Having had the head and carbs off seemed like a good time to replace the throttle and choke cables since they are over 35 years old. Everything back together and trying to route them. Since I can't seem to remember how they were routed before does anyone have a picture of the routing? Everything seems much too long at this point. Obviously they need to be routed without any kinks so that the cable moves freely but at this point I'm a little uncertain. Do they route through the headsteady and than through the two downcoming tubes in the frame?

I've seen a W I D E variation in cable lengths, allegedly for the same (US spec bars) application. The bend right out of the carb is the tightest, splitters end up in the crotch of the frame, just behind the headstock.
 
Seemingly mundane things like this give us all a chance to reinvent the wheel, or at least improve on it.

Form follows function. Just keep the lines clean and smooth with no sharp bends.

Be observant of how the throttle snaps back as you tuck away.

I am sure the factory had some repetitious procedure but that doesn't mean it was the perfect route.

If there are areas of concern for rubbing, slip some heat shrink over the spot.
 
Mine are through the headsteady, but lower down between the plates. When I tried to go around it, the angle coming out of the carb tops was too sharp and they hung up. Zip tied splitters to top frame tube. Throttle cable comes out front of tank and gentle arc to twist grip not thru the fork. When I went thru fork it would bind at full lock.
 
Thanks. I was routing through the head steady and started to question if I was doing it right. Definitely would route to prevent kinks and wire tie up.
