If you were to type in High temp Loctite into google you'd get various offerings - so Im looking to secure my crankshaft nuts - which one do I choose?

IMHO, Locktite is never needed in an engine using standard fasteners. I can think of nothing I would ever use red Locktite on unless I went to work building battleships or single-use rockets.

Yes, the MK3 workshop says to use Locktite 241 on the crank bolts but also 30 ft lb. Since all before that they say nothing about Locktite and only 25 ft lb. it's quite unlikely that any is needed and I've not seen any used on original pre-MK3 cranks.

Those fasteners will come apart with hand tools, cold, with no damage, when I decide it's time.

Done it to thousands of similar sized fasteners, for half a century.
You must be way stronger and me and have much better tools! Red Locktite is specifically designed to not come apart with hand tools!

I have a small propane torch just for accessible bolts but for the most part they come apart with common tools When aluminum is involved I will use blue Locktite. By the way I love the Locktite gasket maker #515

Don’t forget, as soon as you apply loctitie the threads are no longer dry, so all your torque answers are now out of the window

No, you caught me Greg, red-handed, talking out my arse, having never really done any of this stuff.
Making stuff up, and trying to give guidance on things I have no knowledge of.
Theoretical BS.
Every word.
A genuine armchair engineer.

You'd better hurry, PM the original poster, and give him PROPER mechanical advice.

😎🍻🤣

My son used red lock tight on the sludge trap plug of a BSA A65. Years later I took the crank to Marine Crankshaft for some work, and they had to destroy it to get it out. I replaced it with a hex drive plug and no lock tight.

It is funny, I wouldn't think of using any on Carrillo rod bolts or ARP but I have used a tad bit on the original hardware.

If you use too much, the heat required to remove will destroy the nut, and maybe the rod!

I don't think it is necessary to use any if the nuts still have a working lock function.

Please excuse me here - I just come across this on a sellers ad on Ebay - it's long!
There appears a lot of different colours - I suppose not to be confused with other manufacturers colours but the red ones look to be for a permanent fix - so maybe not on the crank
Just how hot are the fasteners on the crank going to get - any more than oil temp?
Mick Hemmings in his video recommended putting on a little of threadlock on the big end lock nuts and then torqued to the recommended 25lb/in - now he new a thing or two about Nortons

Yes, lots for lots of different uses. Norton said 241 for the MK3. It's plenty high enough temperature.
