Tanks from 'Glass from the past'?

I thought it was worth reviving this thread to report that I've had pump gas in my fastback tank from Glass from the past for a couple of months now with no sign of deterioation so I would say my experience has been good. I opted to have an additional lining of Caswell on the inside just in case. Brett will do this for an extra $100.
If you do have a Norton tank made, note that Brett prefers NPT threads to BSP so be sure to mention that you want to have the original threads if you want to avoid buying replacement petcocks.

Would that be E10 type pump gas or ethanol free? As I mentioned earlier, there has been a change in fuel offerings in the Western USA, maybe other areas as well.
3 years ago everything was labelled as containing ethanol, now most stations are offering fuel labelled ethanol free for a slight up charge. It is generally the higher octane stuff which most of us need anyway.

snip

To bad he does not have enough confidence to sell a tank without needing the caswell bandaid.
I just got my 5 gallon pail of resin yesterday. Very pricey for a 5 gallon pail + shipping and the additives. Now I have a firm volume price quote and it will be about $1500 plus shipping for a 55 gallon drum. I can do that....

Now to doctor up the mold and make my repop tank for my dunstall/norton atlas. I only use 1/4 bsp unless making a fastback which used 3/8 bsp inserts then an additional reducer to 1/4.

IMHO this was a BIG mistake. the caswell is a known failure problem

Well Bill, Now in retrospect I'm a bit disappointed in this thread...Since the thread was satisfaction with GFTP. However it has morphed into another Caswell satisfaction thread. So all the resin woo haa is for naught. This is all about caswell.
Thinking of swooshdave's comment "Dynodave, have you thought about working with glass from the past to make your parts?" That was never an option for me before anyway but now!!! ROTFLMAO
GFTP may be OK, I have no way to tell but it was never my job to figure that out...to me this thread is dead. :?:

Responding to questions arising from my last post.

I am using regular california pump gas with Ethanol. Until I post otherwise you can assume my tank is holding up well. GFTP are happy to ship a tank without a Caswell liner. Adding Caswell was an option I chose so that any additives added in the future will have to get through the Epoxy as well as the Vinyl Ester. This seems like a reasonable precaution. I not heard of any problems with Epoxy liners except not sealing properly which is usually because the tank is already compromised. GFTP claims to be constantly running bikes without any Epoxy liner so they can detect any degradation in the Vinyl Ester resin they use.

One could argue that my purchase doesn't prove anything because I still have an Epoxy liner but I would argue that my tank has a much smaller chance of breaking down than a relined old tank. Overall my experience has been good and that is want I wanted to relate in this thread. Most people will not want to make their own tank and GFTP is the only option apart from Steel Indian tanks so I think my experience is valuable for others looking to run a Fastback on regular gas.

Ideally someone would buy an unlined GFTP tank, use it and relate their experience here. That would confirm the chemical resistance of Vinyl Esters but this is widely documented so the risk seems small.

I bought some vinyl ester resin with the intention of making a tank, but the sample I mixed didn't fare very well after a few days in E10 fuel.
I bought an Indian steel f/b tank....
