States' Rights? Trump to Ban California from Making Its Own Laws

JFK died on my late little sisters birthday , cried on the way home from school that day , I’m a proud Canadian , why did/do I care what goes on just south of me .... maybe cause it is the voice and standard setter of the free world , Frank is correct I have no voice just a cheer leader yelling for the Good ....

It’s voters like yourself who keep Canada a prosperous, progressive democracy. Good neighbor to have.

Years ago I lived in Winnipeg for a short time. Have since traveled the length and breadth of your land. Overall, I would say the voters in Canada are better informed and certainly less racist than those in the U.S. Trump would never stand a chance of being elected as even a dog catcher, let alone PM in Canada.

Come to think of it, I seriously doubt Trump could be elected in any democratic country, other than the U.S.

I don't understand the American mentality. Their approach to standardisation seems strange to me. Apparently the belief is that if everybody does the own thing and competes, overall the economy must be better. That does not seems to allow for inefficiencies due to mismatch of components or services. In Australia we have 7 states and one federal government. Most of our laws are promulgated taking the Australian Standards into consideration. There is a conscious effort made to harmonise state differences. With 50 something states all pushing their own barrows, the US must have real problems. I have met people who believe that the closer the government is to grass roots, the better democracy is. However I think that sometimes it might become a dog's breakfast.

I can see you guys are still at it... Well I'm doing better after another ride today which living in more tropic latitudes entitles me to... Not some God rotting lying politician of either inclination..... and Mama is baking another cake which I shall eat with great relish.

we made tiramisu ( spelling ?) for our Holiday Feast , I had only tasted it once before at an ethnic eatery .... while ours was not the same in appearance , boy was it good ! ..... am hoping I have it instead of cake in Aug. for my B'Day .....

Jim,
People here think Boris Johnson is a clone of DJT so he might have a chance here....

As I said earlier, a lot of your countrymen and women voted for the current president and there is a strong belief that they will do so again next November/December. Whatever your feelings and belief about the President, has your political situation otherwise changed so that people feel that the politicians are now listening to them - as they believe the President is?
If the answer is no then prepare for another four years.
Nearly new year so get your resolutions ready - mine is to ride more. A couple of our motorcycling publications run a “ride 5000 miles” campaign and my aim is to exceed that figure.

John

I never ride much more than 500 miles on the Norton ... usually around 10,000kms on each of the Italians though, that is close to 6000 miles .... Norton is almost exclusively used on nice Sunday mornings for my type of religion , as the years pass I may challenge myself to ride Norton more , maybe

Craig,
The average distance for motorcyclists here is 3-4000 miles - probably due to the fact that most bikes are “toys” used at weekends, not surprising when you factor in that the UK is heavily geared towards cars in the motoring policies. ‘Never ridden in rain’ is often seen on bike adverts.

What is 'tiramisu'?.... Just as long as it's not raw fish maybe okay....Raw shellfish okay by me too.

With our electoral system Trump was able to thread the needle in 2016, but was soundly beat at the polls by a somewhat unpopular Democrat. Trump has lost more voters then he has gained. Many of the crossovers who voted for Trump in 2016 have since turned against him.

An Italian dessert.
Funny Craig mentioned having it at an "ethnic" restaurant. I can buy some in most supermarkets around here, won't be any good but it's as common as a cold. Then again I'm in NYC and he's in Nova Scotia!

Peter do have correct spelling for my new fave dessert , I suspect it will be on my lunch menu once I’m back on 2 wheels , will be replacing “homemade coconut cream pie” available at most back road country diners here ....

I googled it ! ... “Tiramisu” .... say it a type of Italian cheese cake dessert , we used plain lady fingers soaked is strong coffee, 2 layers .... very high on it right now , you all should try it , think maybe it a type of health food ....

We have a similar unfair system here - first past the post - resulting in the government being elected on a minority of the vote. Johnson has a significant majority in Parliament of 80 seats but only 44% voted Conservative on a turn out of 67% meaning only 29.5% of eligible voters voted for the new government. With 70% not voting for the Govt there is a lot of scope for people to be disenchanted - much the same as in the USA.
The system needs to change or we will continue to be represented by those who achieve a minority of the vote, whether they are good or bad.

Canada is “first past the post” as well , our youngish PM had promised to look at this system and possibly change it during his first election .... several early unrelated mis-steps changed his tune .... he now governs within a minority government .... I guess it a wait and see situation at this point ....

If this is made with real coconut milk I myself would be very surprised as I have found out that the coconut is OK if it is green, but as it turns brown the milk and coconut forms a laxative and gives me the sh*ts!

Personally no nasty side effects from homemade coconut cream pie for lunch , ever .... guess individual results may vary ,haha!

Good things always come at a hefty price which often gives rise to complaints.

Coconut cream pie is one such thing.

So,is your answer “Vote! Or else!” . . . . some kind of mandatory voting scheme?
