With the heavy crank, we do not usually know if there is an increase in torque until the overall gearing is raised. A Commando does not have a motor which gets it's power by revving higher. If I race, my motor stays between 5,500 RPM and 7,500 RPM regardless of the gearing. I power through the corners instead of racing down the straights. On the straights my bike has about the same speed as most others near the ends of the straights. But the Seeley 850 comes out of corners faster. Other bikes usually do not get the berries until they are almost out of the corners. If I race, it is in Period 4 historic, which has a cut-off date of 1973 and no capacity or fuel restrictions. The quick bikes are all 1100cc methanol-fuelled CB750 Hondas - they really get mobile down the straights. The last time I raced, I was ahead of all of them when a fuel line came off. I need to go there again, just to prove my bike. It does not really matter, I think they got a big enough shock. It was really quite funny - those other bikes cost a motza. There used to be 14 of them.
