Advantage? Well duh It sure looks faster don't it!
My reason though is because Ms Peel is a
Watt's like tri-Helm rod linked isolastic Commando,
underpowered to spin rear tire at will in any gear yet,
so she can tolerate crashing attitudes and skewed loads long
enough for me to see which gear engaged before using
forks, brakes or throttle or bailing off.
Last event that sticks in my mind = in rain slowing up
on slightly down hill run, to turn into a private paved driveway,
I held clutch in to down shift so no engine drag tire slip,
just light front + rear brake, I mildly swung a bit wide to
create a lesser curve into gravel layered driveway,
when rear tire tried to pass me on inside going 30 mph,
so could either do a suddenly sharper turn more up right -
being closer now to the driveway or
take it like a man >
sitting bolt up right - diagonally across into drainage ditch,
held the skewed angle while rear hollowed, saw indeed
I'd snicked down to first and NAILED it to both
lift bike up from too much lean and slide rear around
for no load on front tire, just dolly wheeled it in direction
of travel - till lined up with drive power off to use brakes again
and rolled to normal stop intact.
Another time was waiting behind a car for 900 Monster
to catch up and see what the speck ahead was, barely slowed,
then instantly freaked and about wheelie'd off ahead,
Oh goody took my bait!!,
I meant to snick to 2nd - remembering last pull feeling like 3rd,
but when I Nailed Peel, I heard little tinkling sounds
before the leap around car to catch up for 5 more
miles of twisted fun. After a stop to meet, we took
off again, Darn Monster out horse powering us in opens,
till shortly Peel's gear box made noises and stopped shifting.
If I'd had presence of mind I'd known to look
to see I was in 4th not 3rd -. limped home in 4th opened
er up to find 3rd gear set missing teeth.
To me the little pointer looks fastest.
