Rear Engine Mount - Bolt, Rubbers, Spacers, etc. Stuck

Just thought I'd follow up on that rear engine mount spacer tube dilemna...

After I tore the bolt out, I eventually just got a utility knife and cut the rest of the isolastic rubber out, leaving only the metal ring inside the tube.

Then hacksaw the first half inch of the ring, then hammer a small chisel under the cut, then a good flathead to buckle the ring, and eventually it yielded its bond to the cradle tube.

Here's a pic, in case you've not seen the old metal rings that were around the isolastics in the early generation...

Rear Engine Mount - Bolt, Rubbers, Spacers, etc. Stuck

I decided to leave the spacer tube alone, thinking I might be able to let it live in there with the new isolastics.

Thanks for all your help!

I remember comparing my iso setup with the book and I didn't have that spacer in mine, luckily. I wondered if they really existed.
Dog, (and anyone who might know :D )

From memory, when you peer into the empty main tube of the rear engine mount, where the isolastics and the bolt will live, do you see a uniform inner diameter from one end to the other? Mine has an elevation to a slightly smaller inner diameter, which I assume must be this spacer tube we were discussing. It starts right where the isolastics would end when installed...

Just curious if this is actually a tube, or a formed part of the mounting.

And if it is a tube, I guess I need to know if Verniers will fit in there without getting it out?

Thanks!

As I remember the isolastic tube through my cradle was straight through. That's with everything out. I put the new donuts and spacers in like the drawings for the 71 on the OB site. Mine didn't have the circlips on the spacers so I got new ones. Now if you pull the long stud out, you risk dropping one of the spacers and you may have a hard time getting it lined up again. If I pull out that long stud, I always push through a 1/2" carriage bolt to make sure the spacers are all still lined up. Same on the front, use a long 1/2" bolt as a chaser. If you get the Hemmings vernier adjuster, nothing inside the isolastics change. The Norvil and the MKwhatever vernier are different and even different from each other I think.
