Problem with kickstand, how often do you use yours?

i think the pic i posted just looked flat due to the angle i was shooting at, here's one with a magnetic angle finder set to 18 degrees, considering all things including my center stand, and the floor in my garage, i'd say it's pretty close.

and here's a shot with the exhaust off. You can see how flippin high it's sitting. Makes me think it's the stand, or the mount is bent in the other direction

OK, good. Does the tab on the frame pass the eyeball test? That is, does the tab look paralell with the frame tube? I've been thinking, it could have been bent while the stand was STOWED (like loading onto a truck, jumping a curb, etc.) as opposed to being bent while deployed (more common). The stand itself look straight up near the pivot end? Your images cut that off when posted.

Check the angle the other way.
That's the direction I thought it would be bent if it is. Any idea what that angle should be that way? Your saying it should be pretty parallel with the frame?

Here's another photo that shows the mount. Stand looks bent to my eye, but i dont know if it's suppose to have that curve?

I know I used the stand before taking the bike apart. Not sure how anything would've got bent since then?

FAK! The lug looks twisted. Remove the stand, put a 24" adjustsable wrench on it paralell with the bike (close alongside the front wheel) and lift up. Go a little at a time. Remember to stop just a little before you go too far

Do you have anyone in your area with a '72-'75 Commando that you can park side by side? Or it is easy to remove the sidestand and place it next to one that you know fits. It does look from the picture that your stand is bent.
I think I would make certain it is not the stand before I go twisting on the lug. The frame tubes are not that robust and you might very well twist or kink a frame tube before you move the welded lug.

Ok here's some crappy flash photography. Put the magnet angle jammie on the frame tube, then leveled it (sitting on the center stand the bubble was centered around 3 degrees) then a shot of the angle finder still set to the same 3 degrees

seems bent :(
i honestly am not crazy broken up about having a sidestand, but i'll try to put a little heat on it and lever it with a big adjustable like mentioned above and see if i get enough to clear the exhaust. I think powder coating can take up to like 400 degrees or so, does that sound right?

Maybe, but you need to go waaaaaayyyyyy beyond that to tweak that bracket to 1200F+ and with a melting point of 2000F+.

funny you should say that, i'm busting my ass to try and get this thing on the road and all tested and kink free because the delaware valley norton owners rally is April 28th, last year there were 600+ norton's there, so maybe i'll just walk around all day with my sidestand holding it up to other bikes

my other thought is there is a local shop that is norton, triumph, and bsa only, they've been keeping parts since the 60's and have most everything, i thought maybe i would stop by there and see if he has a sidestand to compare mine too. I'm going to hold off on bending anything until i'm 100% sure
