Frank, just cliked on your link and found out what you've done to your bike. Sounds like you've spent a bit on it to get it to current specs. Mighty nice, once again. Cheers.

Tastefully done machine, I especially like the front end with the neat brake set up and modified fender, can the fender be sourced or did you modify the existing one?

I bought this aluminum fender in a swap meat ( new) its kind of fender used for Triton or cafe racer machine

 Yo Frank, really mean looking foto!!!! Your bike's pretty awesome too  !! Love the golf course "by-the-sea".

Any chance of getting a run down on what you've done to the bike and approximate $$$$.

Mine's a 74 Roadster, and I've spent over A$10k on it and it still not quite finished. Trying very hard to keep it "original"?

Cheers!

keep it original is cool but think about brakes and for me the great thing was to make it single carb ...

Votre Commando est fantastique!! Those are some amazing photographs. Do you take them yourself or did someone else take them?

The thing is to avoid using the RGM master cylinder conversion system which is a piece of S...

What was wrong with the RGM M/C conversion?

I use one, and it's perfectly OK.

Hi Cheesehead Commando

there is a double gain with these barrels. First: 6kg less on the bike, and second that help dissipating heat. They must be carrefully mounted, but the "Maney" quality's level is high, this is a "safe" conversion, not like "Gilardoni's" Triumph barrels.

I can't spot anything I DON'T like on that bike...

Hmmm.... Carefully staged British iron on a GOLF COURSE. Not my idea of the Commando at all.

I've never liked that silly grab-rail on the back seat. It may be OEM, but it's ugly, and unnecessary. Please, e-mail me offlist if you don't know why.

Understand there are Interstate fans out there, but .... Tank is good for touring (utility) but bad on the eye. Lines are all out of proportion. More importantly, this poster also took good care to include a picture of himself/herself (hard to tell either way), complete with a kind of Zoolander pose. To each their own. Pretty much the diametric opposite of what biking is about in my (not so) humble opinion.

The front brake and front fender seem like an appendage taped on to something completely alien. Good updates are available for the Commando, but just tacking on Japanese-type modern upgrades is not only aesthetically unjustifiable but also philosophically so. It's just ugly and lazy, end of story.

But nice pixels, very good and clear, and that against a nice landscape. Cough. I guess that's where the game is going, and nobody's is saying otherwise.

Why do you feel the need to say such things Wrench? I see a very clean machine that has been taken care by someone that is proud to ride a Norton. He has done a great job in my mind, Maybe your taste is not the same as his but to attack how he looks and where the pictures were taken is out of line, Did you have a bad day? WOW!

Just clicked on this morning for a bit of light reading and discovered Frank's bike taking a severe hammering from Wrench!
Opinions ?, yes we are all entitled to them, how we express them is a different matter! I have no doubt Frank is/was offended by the way the comments were put across, (I think most of us would be too), as I'm sure he put a lot of effort into his bike to get it the way he likes it! That is the important bit HE likes it.
Why do most of us get into motorcycles? one reason maybe it makes us a bit of an individual amongst the box like vehicles that convey the masses around. What you do with your bike is your choice, change the paint, seat, tank, forks, whatever, that's not to say everyone will like it, (obviously), but it makes it right for you as an individual.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of the original fastback rear end from certain angles and probably wouldn't put one on my bike, but loads of people do like it and that is ok with me 'cos it's their thing!
I, for one do like the Interstate tank, I like it's curves, it reminds me of...oops sorry  I also like the Roadster tank, as for the grabrail I think it sets it off it's got a nice shape to it. I always think a Commando with a standard seat without out the grabrail looks like there's something missing... but it's only my opinion!
As for Frank's picture, I can now put a face to a forum member and his bike.
As for Frank's bike ... I like it!
You don't like it ?, fine!, comment on it by all means but remember the bike is someones pride and joy!

Thanks rbt11548 for your comment. I agree with you " you like or you dont like " that's all. No need to be a pain ( wrench) in the ass.

Frank — the vast majority of people on this forum really like your bike, including me! You don't have to take one negative comment to heart. I don't agree with Wrench. I like the Interstate look. A Commando is a handsome bike as standard, and with subtle modifications is pleasing to the eye. When I first saw it, I thought it might look better with the pinstripes on the tank, but plain black looks good too, especially against all that polished alloy and chrome. I would prefer to see the front wheel and forks turned round so the disc is on the timing side, with the caliper facing the rear of the slider. I have the RGM disc and Lockheed caliper and it looks better that way.

Also, thank you for posting your web site. Keep up the good work and do not be discouraged! Allez France!

Dave

Nice job Frank. Looks very nice.

Did you get Maney barrels because they are superior to originals, or because there were no standard barrels about at the time?

I prefer to have a grab rail on my Commando, as not only do I think it enhances the bikes lines and looks very 1970s, if one rides it "properly" with a pillion on board, it enables them to not slide into you when braking hard, and hanging onto you when accelerating hard! Lets face it, that's not too bad when it's an attractive lady on the back, but doesn't appeal to me when it's a fifteen stone hairy arsed bloke!

Were you at the Negaro race meeting on the 2nd August last year? I was there. A very enjoyable hot day on the Saturday, which I found out about due to one of your postings, so I suppose this is a thanks.

presenting my commando

Hello what are we having a fashion show here? I thought we built and up-graded these bikes to ride!!!! Who's going to notice your grab rail at 70MPH? I like my grab rail to get it up on the center stand. If it wasn't for these guys trying up grades to keep them on the road Keeping up with traffic theyed all be in musuems THANKS FOR THE GREAT GREAT PHOTOS M.C.

I got Maney barrels because mine were not in a so good condition i was waiting for. And its true that by using Maney barrels u almost gain 6kg which is not bad on a daily use the same for the electric start that make me gain also a few kg
