Thats what happened to me, i got T boned by a 92 years old guy, who turned out had never passed a test! He had grand farther licence from the war!
Poor man, lost the right to drive again, un-able to read a number plate..i was a bit shocked but thats all, flying over his roof! doing about 15mph.

Those Grand Fart her licences can be real stinkers in the wrong hands, the old boy was no doubt deaf as well and probably drove off none the wiser not having heard the bang or JRB s superman impersonation noises as he bounced down the tarmac. I have an idea it would have had all the grace and poise of Ann Widdecomb on strictly come dancing.

J. Michael Mouse extra tube
i googled this & came up nothing?

"Mickey Mouse" is UK slang for disorganised, amateurish, or something poorly executed etc., which of course, the reinforcing tube wasn't even though Frank may think so, however, he'd left by then.

Please tell us more on the crash, ie where you T boned "sorry didnt see you" type ..or did you see the car and the stock brake didnt pull up in time..who did you think was to blaim. point is many still use a stock system, but as yet not used a one ton merc as a brake. I for one , Now I have no doubt a up-rated front end is on the top of the list :!: .

i rear ended a car with my norton and the resulting fork bend looked similar

there was no braking just a split second wtf?! moment...

i did one forward somersault, went by the drivers side door upside down, open face helmet came off at some point and there wasn't much if any sliding forward on the pavement, more like a tumbling forward plop,

it was very painful but no broken bones and was mobile pretty much right away but felt it for some time

I can't see the image, however, very early Commando frames looked like this:
original or upgrade?

They soon broke:

A modification consisting of an additional 1 inch bracing tube inserted below the main tube devised by Ken Sprayson of Reynolds (who made Norton's frames) cured the problem:

@Snorton: Thanks for the info. Very useful for overseas owners (For me, the USA is over sea ;-) but sending a frame and receiving it would not be very economical i think. Actually, we have many frame builders (and straighteners) in the region and i guess they would do a very good job.

@ L.A.B.: Also many thanks. You are like the living Norton encyclopedia. May i ask how you know all those specific facts? Much of the things you post don't even appear elsewhere on the internet. I, as a (relative) young guy (35), can only be very very happy those things become some sort of common knowledge. There are brands of motorcycles (some belgian also, like FN, Gillet, Sarolea) that will loose most of its history with the people that drove it in the days the brands were alive.

@john: can you believe until sometime in the sixties, people in Belgium could just pick up their license in town hall. No tests required.
Many old people here have a license without ever have driving a car :-)

Are they that rare where you are? Here where I am, I can almost toss a stone and hit a Norton frame for sale for around $300-500. They're one of the most common british frames to find kicking around except for OIF triumphs which you literally have to dig out of the way to get to the Norton stuff. Between people taking the motors out and issues with them, they're not that difficult to find. I understand it might be different in the UK, but how much could it possibly be?

I know here, you would pay an arm and a leg to get your frame straightened, and definitely more than the $300-500 you'd expect to spend on another one.

I'm not sure I can answer that. All the information is out there somewhere, but not necessarily all on the Internet.
