That is the preferred option to use another battery… Try a twelve volt lawn tractor battery or the car.

I always use a separate power source for the strobe. Just keeps things from getting confused.

Just use some jumper cables. I built a small wooden box with a couple of bolts sticking out to clamp on. Keeps them from getting tangled.
