norton engine id with pics

A lot of Norton twin engines were used for sidecar motocross, in Wasp frames as well as others, this engine may have some kind of off road history.

Who would have thought, found a picture of the factory Norton Husqvarna ice racer.
Might even be the eBay engine.

Im not a norton expert, but was told by one, that this was possibly at onetime, a factory engine out of a ice racer due to the Husqvarna serial number plate.

Is the photo a reversed print, or do Norton - Husqvarna ice racers have the primary drive on the right side?

The writing isn't reversed, so its an elaborate 'reverse' print if it is...

I would have said its impossible to rig the engine and primary like that too,
things are just in the wrong places.
So how can that be ??

Note that the bike is leaned over, and the engine appears to be standing up.
Photoshop, and the engine clip has been reversed.
By someone who didn't entirely know what they were doing....

Please tell me you are joking.
Maybe on the Norton Husqvarna factory ice racer the engine was installed so it was vertical on the turns so the oil was level in the cases, the reverse engine was probably due to the Husqvarna having the chain on the right hand side.

Perhaps the engine was installed in reverse so the gyro forces destabilised the ride,
and it was easier to ride to the horizontal....

Childish minds Les, childish minds....

Not quite Rohan.
The picture of course has the cut out engine from my Mk2a which was purposely reversed to suit this comedy.

What I find disturbing is no one has any real concern over what might be a dodgy engine including the thread starter and now seller.
Here is the link to the same engine in this thread now on eBay as already posted yesterday.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1974-1975-Norto ... 8b&vxp=mtr

The OP was here while I was posting but elected to not give any form of update, not that it matters.
A 1973 or 1974 Norton 850 engine with a 1973 Husqvarana 250 cc two stroke off road engine number tag riveted over its engine number for a ice racer = baloney.

Quite clearly there is something odd going on, but note that the original number has not been 'altered' ,
nor by the OP or seller,
so technically nothing illegal anywhere here. ?
So why the personal crusade ??

I give up.
The original engine number has never been posted, it is hidden under the tag off a totally irreverent motorcycle.
All other pictures except those retained in quotes were edited out by the thread starter, today it seems.

Well I tried to suggest in my first post that the engine number business was not too good.

I don't think its a good idea on an international forum to say too much about possible issues with the history of an engine but I will say that if I was looking at buying what looks like a nice engine I would take a very hard look at the history of the engine, any paper trail and check out the possible issues for re registering it for the road.

In New Zealand this engine would challenged by any authority who knew what they were doing.
