Thank you! Can you please describe what exactly is the difference between GL4 and GL5?Just dont use Hypoid or GL-5 oils. Make sure it is GL-4.
Lubricants are covered in the Riders Manual
Thank you!Redline MT-90 has worked for me.
Thanks for the linkThis what I use in my AMC 4 speed g/box (Roadster) https://www.redlineoil.co.nz/collec...oducts/lightweight-shockproof-gear-oil-gallon
This what I use in my TTI 5 speed g/box (racebike) https://www.fuchs.com/au/en/product/product/118735-titan-supergear-hyp-sae-75w-90/
The main difference between GL-4 and GL-5 gear oils is the amount of EP additives. Sulphur/Phosphorus containing products are used as EP-additive. This additive has the purpose to prevent the occurrence of micro-welds on the gear flanks at the local high temperatures which prevail in EP circumstances (temperatures well in excess of 800℃!) GL-5 has roughly twice the amount of EP additives compared to GL-4, which is why it is often used in high-pressure circumstances such as in a front axle and rear axle differential.Thank you! Thank you so much for the in depth explanation! This really helpsThe main difference between GL-4 and GL-5 gear oils is the amount of EP additives. Sulphur/Phosphorus additives however have an unfavourable property: they can react aggressively towards bronze and copper. This can be disastrous for the synchromesh rings of a gearbox. Therefore it is not recommended to use GL-5 in a gearbox unless the manufacturer allows this.
I take offense to that.i only said what's the best oil to see if i could get another oil war going actually i use RedLIne Heavy Shockproof trans oil in all my bikes and the 68 MGB have used it for years works great for me

Astroglide?? Sounds like a good name for a new 'Marvel' type 'Superhero'... Not too sold on his catchphrase, though.
