The Commando is almost completely dismantled except for the bottom end of the motor and the trans, parts on order.
The G15 appears to be original paint. It was missing the right side panel that covers the oil tank, but scouring ebay for spare parts, I had a stroke of luck and found one the same color in Canada so I grabbed it up. I also lucked out on the engine being locked up as I found the magneto missing and the timing chain was just wedged inside the gears, since it was loose. Easy fix and the extra early Commando motor supplied the points distributor and timing cover to fill the holes. Engine has been retimed and it turns over smoothly with compression on both cylinders. I will check the valve clearances and proceed without removing the head and see how that goes. I found a new set of exhaust headers and replica mufflers and will spend some cash on those but how can I scimp on such an original bike? Thats about all that is missing except for the tach drive, so I should be able to proceed to get it running. From what I read so far, only 1000 of these bikes were made? If thats true, then how many are still original equipment and paint? There cant be many.
