I just brought home a 1965 G15 Mark II that looks fairly complete, with a 1971 Commando. The G15 also came with a spare parts motor which appears to be a very early Commando (Atlas).

Re. G15 - I am green with envy! Where do you guys pick up these bargains? (I assume you didn't pay too much for it) I hope it gets a new lease of life! Nice to see complete rear fender - front fender too perhaps? These are getting very difficult to find in usable state today.

I paid $1000 each, so I think I did ok. Both have titles. I buy most of my bikes on facebook marketplace or just word of mouth. All my friends know I buy bikes so they send me a message when one comes up for sale. I assume my link is viewable? I cant see the picture I attempted to post...

I found a set of tank emblems on ebay for $30 so I just need the screws to mount them. The G15 motor is stuck, cant wait to work on it this Winter. I currently have the Commando in the shop. Motor turns over with compression. I was told it went into his fathers bike shop 30-40 yrs ago with chassis problems (Swingarm), it did not have any engine or trans issues. Hoping for the mechanical restoration and may repaint it. Its got a budget glitter paint job on it.

Good for you. I'm always glad to see older bike coming out of the sheds and being brought back to life.

Pictures please.

Hi Knut.
Only in USA you can find these "barn find" bikes at the right price.
Here in Italy they would have asked 10.000 uero for both.

The Commando is almost completely dismantled except for the bottom end of the motor and the trans, parts on order.

The G15 appears to be original paint. It was missing the right side panel that covers the oil tank, but scouring ebay for spare parts, I had a stroke of luck and found one the same color in Canada so I grabbed it up. I also lucked out on the engine being locked up as I found the magneto missing and the timing chain was just wedged inside the gears, since it was loose. Easy fix and the extra early Commando motor supplied the points distributor and timing cover to fill the holes. Engine has been retimed and it turns over smoothly with compression on both cylinders. I will check the valve clearances and proceed without removing the head and see how that goes. I found a new set of exhaust headers and replica mufflers and will spend some cash on those but how can I scimp on such an original bike? Thats about all that is missing except for the tach drive, so I should be able to proceed to get it running. From what I read so far, only 1000 of these bikes were made? If thats true, then how many are still original equipment and paint? There cant be many.

Roy, I hope you are not planning on firing up the G15 engine in its present state? The crankshaft will need cleaning out after a long lay-up. If mileage is unknown, magnafluxing the crankshaft is strongly advised.
Rocker spindles, cam and cam followers should be examined also.

Thank you for your concern, but Im not running the Gran Prix with these old bikes. I ride them myself and will deal with the consequences if need be. When I sell them, I fully disclose the history and condition with honesty.
