New toy for my shed

That looks great ashman! My big brother and I got into slot cars growing up in the 60's too. I always wanted to race cars with my kids as they were/are growing. a Few years back I was on leave in Houston and needed to put new tires on the family van. The tire store had a display of slot car sets for sale. Even though I shouldn't have (money was tight) I bought one and since it was X-mas time wrapped it and got it under the tree. We had fun but the track was small and so were my kids and they would just mash on it and the cars would go flying off the curves and get lost under the couch, but they had more fun doing that than anything then. Now our youngest is 11 , but living here in this crowded area of Japan , houses are small so there isn't any room for a track in the one we're currently renting. I did happen to see a commercial set up in a store/space at the Haneda Airport of all places. I had a short time before my flight and was wandering around and found the place. I was so surprised, it has a really big track and many cars to choose from. I vowed to take the kids when I returned from the business trip....that was 3 years ago....this is the reminder that I needed thx. I'm jealous of your set up, it's looking really good.

Nothing better than getting the kids involved but only when they are old enough to enjoy it, when my daughters were growing up I bought a AFX track, well 2 in fact and set it up under the same place this new track is, I bought it for my youngest but mum and me had more fun with it than the kids, the Carrera Digital set is so much better and bigger.
Yesterday morning I serviced all the cars the whole 9 of them replaced all the worn tyres and all the contacts on the cars with new ones and now just got to give the tracks a good clean after all the work I been doing in the shed, I got a bit of dust to get rid of, but thinking of doing a few more changes still not happy and install a few crash barriers to the tables to stop the cars from shooting off the tracks and crashing onto the floor, few of the cars the tyres were so worn they were losing grip on the track, glad there was new sets of contacts with still spares to go and the new tyres were ordered before I bought the set so no cost to me for the full maintenance of the cars, just my own time which I am enjoying, tonight is race night.
A few of my wife's friends and some members of her family think I am a big kid and wasting my money on toys, well I am and I am having so much fun keeping myself amused, I sell a toy to spend on new toys so no cost out of our living money and the wife has her own car as well, so yes am 63 but 17 in my heart and I recommend it to anyone if they have the space, home entertainment is so good better than sitting in front of the idiot box (TV) being bored sh.tless every night and staying home without spending money for entertainment and keeping out of harms ways, I am just enjoying life and anyone is welcome to join us, the last few days has been raining and what a great time to be indoors and not be bored sh.tless.

Ashley, I know what you mean. I commented to my wife the other day, I said I don't know what I would do without my workshop and she snapped back, probably get more things done around the house. All in all life is great and I am lucky to have a partner who has her interests and I have mine and we have many common interests to keep boredom away. That reminds me to mark Valentines Day on the calendar to grovel another year of bliss.

Well my wife can't complain as when the virus first hit and all the lock downs I completely refubished the inside of my old 75 year old house and built a modern kitchen and added a dish washer to make things even easier for her as well as myself, I lived in this house all my life it was my family home that my dad built and everything that needed fixing I do all the repairs and work myself, being retired for over 8 years now I still find things to do everyday, home improvements, gardens, my shed, the bikes and Land Rover, life couldn't be better for me and the wife, I always looked after her but she still gets in my ear but do I listen to her, not really, I do things for me my ways and she has no say at all, well she can but I never listen anyway as I do things the right way and what's easier for me, next major project is repaint the outside of my house but that will only take me 2 weeks to do, the old paint job I did over 23 years ago but is still good because I did it right the last time so just a light sanding and 2 new top coats will bring it up new again.

Already took care of that. A blacksmith (female) friend of mine made this steel and gold leaf - and my wife is a mad keen gardener - does it for a business too.

Well spent all day on this project, extended the slot car table more into the workshop area and rearanged the set up of the track with 3 long straights the start finish line is the longest and have used up all the large pieces of track so only short sections left over all up 85 piece of track on the table, still have things to do and add a few more power cables to the track so it don't have any dead spots but going to do the wiring all under the table so it looks cleaner, I think this will be it for the track lay out but testing to come first, but want to finish it all off before the racing starts.
I am going to make my own models of the pit area, grand stands and control tower, can buy it all but they are not cheap and will be more fun making my own, today will add barriers so the cars don't fly off the table, lucky all this stuff came with the lay out just got to make it for my set up, its a cool day today been raining all night so won't be so hot in the shed, going to buy a industral fan today which will make things better on our hot days, pics to follow.

Your dog doesn't mind getting his picture taken eh. My dog will not look at the camera, no way, or be still, unless he is right out of it. In fact in 10 years of his existence the wife might have 3 or 4 good pictures of him and 2 or 3 of me and maybe 1 or 2 of me with Jake.

That's my chair when sitting under the awning, she is always sitting in it when I am not in it, she is normally in it before I get up in the morning waiting for me to get out of bed and open the back door to empty the tea pot, when she gets her first pat for the day, the red dog is still under the house, too early for her lol.
 
Final upgrade of the slot car track, I made a 4 car garage, a control tower and over bridge add stickers around the track and raised the corners for faster speeds around the corners, I am sure I will be adding more things as I go but at the moment am happy the way it is, all cars have new tyres fitted and new track brushes and added a few power taps around the track so no flat spots when running a few cars, this has been so much fun building, have used 90 pieces of track out of 100 so am happy with that, first race meet Friday night at Pricey International Raceway.
