New to 961?

Right, Eddie. I decided before I didn't want a new bike ; but it is a Norton & just grabbed me when I saw it. Very much doubt I'd get the 961. Unless they give me an offer this winter i can't refuse.
You seem pretty sure the bike will still be there this winter ?

Thank you Richard.
One of the "extras" I received from the previous owner was a set of brand new SBN mufflers. They have now been installed. Can't seem to feel much difference in performance, but it sure does sound better. Do you think the present map that is installed should be good enough or would it be worthwhile to send the ECU off to Jonathan Reece as you had previously recommended?
can I get Jonathan Reece contact info, please?

If you work on your own bike, do something today that you will thank-yourself later for.

- Go to your local store and get iridium plugs
- Get some PROGRIP grips (it's amazing how much a $15 item can improve your riding experience on the Norton)

Go to the CNW website and order the following;
- Bosch Coil
- ONE07 Racing Wires
- ONE07 Clutch Jam (You will need this one day)
- ONE07 Transmission vent
- ONE07 Gear Jam (very handy little tool)
- ONE07 Gear Puller (Unless you have a small one already)
- ONE07 Battery Mat
- ONE07 Starter Solenoid Rebuild Kit - optional purchase now but you will need it one day. (Unfort. if you have a low battery, the starter does not have enough power to turn the engine and the solenoid contacts flicker and rapidly wear out which makes starting it harder and harder to do each time. If they completely wear out, then this tool replaces and sets new contacts without removing the starter from the bike. Once you see whats involved to remove the starter, you will be glad we figured this out for you.. :)

- Then upgrade the ignition and add the vent.
- If you have close to 1,000 miles, do a head torque.
- Adjust your Butterfly Stop (IDLE SCREW - that's not really an idle screw the ECU does that) Read my manual carefully on this and make sure you do it right or your idle will climb way over 2,000rpm when the bike gets warm which could cause an accident. PS - You also need a locking nut.
- Contact Jonathan Reece -Skeleton Cycles DENVER and send him your ECU for a remap and re BIN file.

IF YOU DO ALL THESE THINGS, You will have the Norton 961 experience that is extremely satisfying and you will no longer be thinking you need to fix anything to make the bike better!!
Wow, great information here Richard. Over three years since you posted, so you might have sold your Norton now and not be on the site anymore, but if you are firstly thanks very much for the info on the hunting and the ball bearing fix. I blocked off the pipe between the I IAM and the airbox, adjusted the throttle stop by 1.5 turns and it seems to run much better, although not tested on the road yet as weather over here in Blighty is still rubbish, but have now ordered a 10mm ball bearing to plug the hole.
Your list is very comprehensive, but do you have more details as I am not 100% sure what some of the items are e.g. which type of Iridium plugs, furthermore should I expect availability over here, the Bosch sensors will be no problem it's more for the other things really.

For interest I have attached a link to a UK fix for the hunting which does not work on the 961 as I believe that it is for the Dominator and the set up appears to be slightly different.

Good work and thanks
Andy

Is there anywhere else to send the ECU for a remap? Quick Google search = no results for Skeleton Cycles...

Here are the plugs I ordered after confirming with NGK that they are a suitable replacement/upgrade for the stock CR9EB:
NGK 3521 CR9EIX Iridium IX Spark Plug
SKU: CR9EIX

Then you have the SC Components ECU , and SC Components is now SCS Delta UK and they have a representative in California called SCS Delta USA . They can do a remap for you if needed . But just to be sure , take off your seat and check to see if you have a black color plastic body ECU , if you do then its an SC Typhoon . I have a 2014 too and it has the SC Typhoon ECU . You can Look in the SCS Delta 400 users group thread . Go to the SCS Delta UK website then look at ( stockists ) find map of USA and see the locations , there were two : one in CA. and the other in CO.
