I vouch for Andy and Nick at FD Motorcycles not only since we grew up together, but because I know the quality of the work. Nick's work is incredible and Andy is the best classic bike builder/mechanic. They need to update their website, but here it is: http://www.fdmotorcycles.co.uk

Make sure you say hello from me if you go to see them as I dont get to the UK as much as I need to!

Cheers- Jerry

I know the question has been asked about the fit and leak-proofness of these tanks, so I've just checked this one out before sending it on to Ben (Thanks!).

No leaks, and a new Ceandess (OEM) cap fits straight on - just as it should.

The mounting holes are also 5/16" UNF - something I'd been wondering about.

Still pleased with these tanks!

Hmm, makes me almost want to re-shelve my steel interstate tank so I can pick one of these up and go back to the original style roadster tank with Fireflake red on my commando. Always loved the flake, just a bit too much on a a large interstate.

Agreed - it just wouldn't work on an interstate.

Something to 'ease the thought process'?

I was going to do a set of tinware in the golden bronze, but now I'm not so sure any more...

Cheers everyone. Terry, jerry and Andy.I will have a look at these guys for paint when I get round to it. Another place I was recommended was ART at Ashford, he quoted £500 to do all the prep and metal flake whilst at the show last weekend. I didn't ask about logos, I do like the idea of stencils rather than transfers.

Glad to see the tank is as good as it sounds, look forward to removing that old hi rider tank now and seeing what it all looks like :)

Anyone know of someone in need of the peanut style hi rider tank when I do come to swop them over. I will take a pic and stick it on the forum then but it will be for sale.

Also, what about orange with black lettering? .... Was it a proper colour for the 850?

Candy Apple red and Fireflake blue are both correct for 1974 roadsters.
I think the orange & yellow bikes were '71-'72 - plain graphics and no pinstripes
Fireflake Golden Bronze was an option up to (I think) 1973

Just in case someone out there hasn't seen this before...

Fireflake blue - Matched against an original 'S' panel:

Best modern equivalent to Fireflake Golden Bronze (slightly more orange - compare to the original one in the photo above; it's close)

I bought one of these tanks a few weeks ago from Matt at CNW and had it shipped directly to Brent at the Vintage Vendor. Brent sent me some pictures and I thought I would share them with you. (they are curing now and will be on the bike next week!) He does excellent work and both he and Matt have been a pleasure to work with.

Enjoy...

while it seems that everyone is going with the new metal emgo tank, I am searching a good original fiberglass one..
so if there's anyone out there who has a good one, please contact me!

I have them in stock now, and they do look like a very good product. I am matching the US price of $475, plus postage. That typically means a total cost of somewhere between AUD $495.00 to AUD $535.00 delivered inside Australia.

I wonder if Emgo will produce an Interstate tank.
THAT would be very very nice. :) especially seeing what originals are selling for!
