I am replacing the rear brake shoes on my 1974 Commando. The old shoes had brake shoe slippers (the workshop manual calls them “thrust pads”) that fitted over the end of the old shoes at the brake lever expander cam, presumably to provide a hardened wearing surface between the shoe and the cam. However, the old brake shoe slippers won’t fit over the ends of the new shoes. The new shoes (Andover Norton 06.3417) appear that they may have the slippers incorporated into the shoe casting but I can’t tell for sure. Can anyone confirm that the new Andover Norton brake shoes have the thrust pads incorporated into the shoes?

If you compare the shoes with the ones in the AN pic they should have the steel slippers attached?

Also, the slipper part number 06.0013 is there on the brake shoe page.

I think the steel slippers are there but are not as apparent as in the photo you have posted. The slippers on the new shoes are not quite as thick as the old ones, and are not separate like the old ones but are actually incorporated in the shoes. The new shoes also seem to have some sort of a coating on the casting which has spilled over onto the slippers making it a little difficult to see the slippers. The new shoes fit nicely into the drum and are concentric to the brake plate. I think the addition of separate slippers would affect the fit. Thanks for the response.

Don't forget to centralize the brake shoes, and keep the pedal pressure on while tightening the axle nuts.

Best.
