New owner - first 24hrs

I just ordered the proper stuff, same price but only 1/10 the volume :)

You really have got to watch out for the rippoffs from the far east, the labels, the description, and I don't usually get ripped off that easy. It will come in handy on the lawn mower I'm sure.

Electronics are really copied. Fake Bosch galore all over the place. Even by suppliers looking to make a few dollars. I’m convinced that Norton have been ripped off with fake Bosch sensors, fake denso starters and fake bosch ignition coils. Because the ones on the bikes are as shit as they get. Half the norton starters dont even have oil seals for wet environments. Seriously, if you haven’t changed all the sensors and coils it’s only time before you’re bike is running like shit or having issues. And if your starters leak oil, well the transmission vent can only do so much. There is no oil seal in half the starters we’ve seen. Ask TonyA what he learned about buying a “genuine” harley starter off ebay????

Great weather weekend here in the UK, took a spin out on saturday to get it past 500 miles and to test out my new lid. Went for a Hedon Epicurist with a full visor. Very nice finish and light, little bit tight over the ears which blocks the sound maybe a tad too much, hope it will losen a bit with use. Word of warning though, found my teeth chattering, part Hedon part Norton fault so I have to have my mouth slightly open whilst riding so probably look a bit simple.

Bike riding well, said it before but just love the handling, I think being down near the bars, it just feels right to carve up the corners. It was my wifes birthday on saturday and we had 10 over for a BBQ at 7.00pm. I had worked like a dog all day after my spin out, gardens, strimming and cleaning down the BBQ and fixing it. So at 6.00pm told her I would take the V7 out for a circuit which is about 20 miles. 10 miles in left foot felt hot and wet and smoke started coming off the bike. Bloody dipstick had vibrated loose and started to spew oil everywhere. Pulled up, though it was going to go up in flames with oil on the downpipes but didn't. Onto carol nash at 6.15, broke the news to boss and she shouted and hung up on me. Texted one of the guys who was coming to get there early to do my job. Breakdown truck arrived 2 hours later, home 9.15, downed a couple of pints sharpish to catch up and de-stress, all at the table eating and the buggers had burnt the food.

Back for another spin out on the 961 today, coffee stop then nice blast, could not find the dipstick from previous day. Mileage now about 535, back for service next week. Soon be up to 600 and 6000 revs beckon. Looking forward to that. I have stunk of 10/60 semi synthetic oil all weekend, great smell.

I wore my open face for first time riding the 961 on Friday. Blooming-eck it was a wall of abstract noise, a cacophony! It was only the open shorts rhythmic beat which kept me sane, telling me that the engine was still alive and in one piece!

That's Right. I bought a for H-D Sportster 1.4 KW chrome starter from ebay. It did not have the internal seal on the gear shaft. David was able to use the one from my original Norton starter. The rest of the Starter was pretty good. It is much quieter and smoother sounding when cranking . This is a worthwhile upgrade.

My original starter on my 13 Sport was the loudest cranking banging knocking leaky POS I've ever seen on any machine. Norton sent me a new one under warranty and the thing doesn't even have time to crank. It just starts immediately, so no complaints on the OEM now. If it goes though, I'll consider the HD starter. I appreciate the info.

Well Martin opposite for me first time with full face helmet last night. Strange noises from the bike but just ignore them 330 miles now going up to 4,500 revs feels great love the handling. Sitting the 961 next to my J P S the original Commando is a lot bigger and longer.

55in vs 57in wheelbase ? Are the 19in wheel/tire taller ?

Not back just yet so not sure but they have been very helpful as would expect. Looking forward to riding it again especially as the V7 has been been out of action at the same time. Thats being serviced for the second time in 5 years.
