Once the warranty runs out ( It's a keeper ) this is the drip tray I made to do an oil change without taking off the exhaust system every time

Great Idea. Is there enough room to get the drain bolt out ?

I think there is enough room provided you just break the bolt free with a wrench, then position the tray, and use fingers to back the bolt out slowly.
It'll be tight, but I think it's doable.
For me, I just undo the bolt, and let the oil slobber all over the pipes while I get a beer and relax for 30 minutes or so.
No sense getting upset, it's all part of owning a Norton 961.🤩

Spent hours on the computer looking for a hex nut sump plug with a captive seal as per original , the closest I got was one in China but it had a BSP thread so I took a different approach . Buying a connector with the same seal I remanufactured it as per the photo by cutting it down and tapping the centre hole, then using JB Weld on the threads cut off the bolt I tightened in and centre popped the ends. Now it was the correct length to drop into the drip tray and clear the sump threads. I have detested the Alan bolts ever since my first 961 and now a ring spanner can be used to tighten it up.
If anyone has found a hex head bolt with the correct captive seal and thread please feel free to post . I am convinced the centre plug will not come loose, but If I suddenly stop posting or post from my hospital bed I F**ked up.

Some of you guys have too much spare time on your hands 🤔😂 It takes less than five minutes to remove both silencers and centre section.
Regards sump bung...the very early bikes came with a bung the same as what Ford used on a lot of their engines, starting with the silver top Zetec.

It's a simple equation , (retirement) + (idle hands) = (time spent in garage) - (bloody fingers) = drip tray. 🥴
