My New Café Racer MKII

Gaza, I had the stock headers and Norton de cat link pipe. Initially I ran the Norton shorties, and later replaced them with the Thiel short ones.

Gazz, IMHO, if you want to enjoy your bike, get on an talk to Thiel for pipes and Thor for mapping and servicing. There is simply no indication of how long you’ll be waiting for the factory to wake up and even when they do, there’s no guarantee they’ll be selling the ‘aftermarket’ pipes and cans. And even if they do sell them, I can’t imagine them being so much cheaper than Thiel’s so as to influence your decision.

Last time I checked , No shorties at Thiels . Out of stock . Maybe the longs are in stock though . I have an open request to be notified when they are back in stock.

That's definitely what I want to do, enjoy my bike, currently I am tolerating it and trying to optimistic about the future, I know guys on here have got their bike's running sweetly so no reason why mine shouldn't eventually... My mates think I'm

I have sent an email to Thiel, I'm waiting to see what they say. If the factory doesn't open up soon I will talk to Thor in Bodmin. She can't just sit in my garage with my other bike's laughing at her

Just back from a weekend blast on mine, wanted to test it out in the rain, no problems! Fast road over Fylingdales, Whitby to Pickering, back home the Blakey Ridge road in the dry. Can't fault her! Kept in the 4 to 6K range she runs, handles and pleases the aural requirements nicely with the DIY silencer mods. Getting used to the clattering when pottering, might try a 75W90 in the transmission.
What's your DIY silencer mod?

Yes, that's what I am planning to do, seems essential to get a free flowing exhaust and map to suit..

It is. And FYI if you get any joy out of Thiel, my bike had the factory map for factory shorties and de cat, and that map worked perfectly (as far as I could tell, I never dyno’d it) with the Thiel shorties.

I shortened them by about 8 or 9 inches effectively removing 2 of the 3 baffle chambers. Blanked of the 3/4 transfer tube from the rear of the baffles in the tapered section aft of the cat, made a cone from the dummy end cone and had them rewelded back on. Gives a rev cone with a 3 inch opening. Oh, and drilled holes in the last section baffle plates to counteract sealing that 3/4 pipe!

Good look with Thor!!!!
Not had much success with them.
Still waiting for them to get back to me regarding parts.
Asked in March.

From memory (back in 2017) when the pipes were opened up, just after the first service, the dealer changed Omex for SC ECU and loaded the ‘open pipe’ map - transformed the bike. Think I have that right, others will correct, but initial bikes had Omex, then switched to SC and then back to Omex - confusing.

Hi Stephen, it may be nothing, but I happened to look at this photo today and spotted what looks like a connector possibly not latched in the block. Centre row, last but one on the right. It looks further out than the others to me. Might be worth giving that wire a tug?

Thanks Cliffa,

Had a good old man look - you know, specs off, wrinkle nose, get close - it looks ok! Carefully manipulated the cables in that area and they all look good. Worth the inspection though. Would be great to find a simple answer.

I’m going to refit the battery today hopefully and get out for a short ride this weekend, tradies permitting.

Good news Stephen, glad it was nothing.

Finally got a reply from Teesdales wrt servicing and parts and they state that, Norton not yet open etc. Covid issues etc. Looks like I'll have to make my own rocker cover gasket!

Go to Thiel Motorsports , Ollie had his own gaskets manufactured and they are good quality .

Thanks Tony, after a nip on 3 corner screws, cold, took it out yesterday but still weeping. 1 screw nipped while engine hot, fingers crossed or off it will have to come. On my Hinckley Bonneville I've had the cover off twice, reused the same gasket and no problem, thinking a vent on the rocker box maybe.
